AJS, an anti-tax group with "close ties to the insurance and health care industries," is running ads touting Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum. The group, who refuses to release a list of donors that helped fund the commercial, is yet another example of just how closely tied Santorum is to corporate interests.
The Morning Call reports:
AJS, based in Alexandria, Va., has spent millions on advertising since it formed in 1998. The nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics lists it as a ''pro-Republican, pro-business'' group with close ties to the insurance and health care industries.
''It's ironic that in the same week that Bob Casey issued an ethics reform plan calling for greater disclosure, Santorum's special-interest friends are skirting campaign finance laws by running ads while keeping silent on who's paying for the ads,'' Reiff said. He challenged Santorum to call on such groups to identify who funds them.
Santorum desperately needs the help of his rich corporate friends because the people of Pennsylvania have already rejected Santorum's failed leadership and questionable ethical conduct. It looks like this is just the beginning of massive amounts of corporate-backed money that will be flowing into this race to help save the sinking Santorum.
