Happy thanksgiving, my cousin is in FUCKING IRAQ! And we all found out today!

You don't have to post in reply to this, I'm just so *fucking* angry and wanted to post.

This kid (and I say 'kid', but he's 26!!!!!), this MAN, he adopted his wife's child by her first husband and only wanted to do right by his family! He was laid off and had nowhere to go and NO I'M NOT MAKING THIS UP, it's the same story we all know. He wouldn't know politics if he tripped over it (I don't even think he voted in 2004) but now bush has him in Iraq fighting to secure an energy source that we should have evolved past a long time ago. The thing of interest to DU is that he only JUST JOINED! Is that right? I know the military is stretched, but they brought him in and shipped him right back out to Iraq inside of like two months. Does that sound right?

Just wanted to post to say I hear ya. It's a frigging nightmare, isn't it? I wish there was something I could say to make you feel better, but I know there isn't. My only hope is that someday Bush and Cheney and the cabal will get what they deserve.

Problem is, we either all must vote (never happen, we are lazy-ass Americans and might miss something on TV) or we must take it to the streets (also never happen, too many chickenshits who would rather rant than revolt).

Of course, that is just my take on this.

Happened to a 26 year old friend of mine during Gulf 1. He joined to get police experience, spent a few months as an MP guarding a base in England, then WHAM! Infantryman with the 2nd Marine LAI, tip of the spear. But he came back ok, and I'm sure this nightmare will be over soon. All good karma your way...
