Vote on Iraq Withdrawal, Check the block for Repugnik Win
When this vote was going on, I was one of a handful of voices telling people that we should vote FOR the pullout. I was accused of being a troll, a defeatist, and any number of other things. I was RIGHT. The repugniks were already planning on how to spin the event, and Rep. Murtha's comments, and knew our Representatives would fold when the spotlight was swung their way.

Which was precisely what the Democratic leadership wanted Murtha to do. A close ally, Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, was anxious to open a second axis of attack on Iraq—and was aware of his growing antagonism toward the war. The two met and agreed that he would make his case in private to the party conference. After that, on his own, he would introduce a resolution calling for withdrawal of troops from Iraq "at the earliest practicable date." Pelosi and the other liberals would keep their distance, while their own Marine charged up the Hill. Framed by long rows of American flags at a press conference, he denounced the Iraq war as a "flawed policy wrapped in an illusion."

Newsweek is all but calling the event a stunt organized by the DEMOCRATIC PARTY. Now the Repugniks are using the break to brainstorm the next response, and the next and the next. The Repugs are busy right now watching football while they plan how to further destroy the Democratic Party.

I maintain my position, we missed our chance, we missed the chance to demonstrate a clear difference between the two parties. One is for unjustified war, the other is against unjustified immoral war. We took the pass on the issue, and they are using it against us. We can wonder if they will pull the troops out, and how we can claim credit, but we can't claim any more credit than THEY can because we voted to keep the troops IN.

2. Yup.
You were right. I thought the same thing. It would be both the moral and pragmatic decision to support immediate withdrawal.
