Poll question: Your opinion of 'Log Cabin Republicans'...
Edited on Sun Nov-27-05 12:26 AM by nickshepDEM
Who we are

Log Cabin Republicans courageously stand on the front lines of today's most important battleground for gay and lesbian civil rights. We are the nation's leading voice for fairness, inclusion, and tolerance in the GOP.

Our party stands at a crossroads. The GOP must choose between fairness and freedom or intolerance and exclusion. Log Cabin works tirelessly to make sure the Republican Party chooses the right path. Ending up on the wrong side of history will cost the GOP for decades to come. So we tirelessly strive to achieve liberty and equality for all Americans.

What we believe

We are loyal Republicans. We believe in low taxes, limited government, strong defense, free markets, personal responsibility, and individual liberty. Log Cabin represents an important part of the American family-taxpaying, hard working people who proudly believe in this nation's greatness. We also believe all Americans have the right to liberty, freedom, and equality. Log Cabin stands up against those who preach hatred and intolerance. We stand up for the idea that all Americans deserve to be treated equal-regardless of their sexual orientation.

29. "every one I have known an encyclopedia of mental disorders"
Amen.

I seem to attract them dating-wise. I could NOT tell you why.

But they all seem afflicted with mental complexes that would be paralyzing if not heavily rationalized into submission.

4. They seem to be a self-loathing selfish bunch to me!
They are willing to support a party that is working to preclude the pro-same-sex marriage, partnerhsip rights, and hate-crime legislation that this PFLAGer and her GLBT friends believe is of utmost importance.

They are willing to support a party that seeks to end reproductive rights and attack the unions that help fight for workers' rights.

I have a very negative opinion of them. I grew up with hardright Republicans, and I know the propaganda words well; I know the codewords well. These are very selfish people who are pleased with their privilege; they do not care about the average Joe or Jane's struggles.

7. Sell-outs. No better than
Slave-trade supporting Blacks or Hitler-supporting Jews.

Neither of their lot got anywhere in the end; so why do gay republicans feel they'll be any better off?

Your bottom line won't save you, gay pukes. And your dissention from reality will exterminate us all. Even you. And does it matter if you're given only a few more months in the end? Can you really be desensitized to your own humanity?

20. Sorry, but I think you're just a bit mild in your condemnation.....
I abhor them, the hypocrisy of gay men (especially in the deep south) supporting the party that promotes hatred and discrimination against homosexuals is mind boggling! Its past insane. How do you justify voting for Haley Barbour and Trent Lott if you are gay?

I have done many dumb and counterproductive things in my life. And yes, I have occasionally voted for a Republican. But to pledge my political allegiance to an organization that hates and reviles me is simply incomprehensible. Its like an open gay being a proud member of a Southern Baptist church. How can you live with the discrepancies in your life?

I find it incomprehensible.

13. you people need to wake up
I'm gay. I'm also a somewhat conservaitve Dem. I'm pro-globalization because I have researched the economic impact of the concept and learned a bit about what globalization is and what it helps accomplish. I don't like paying taxes any more than the next guy but I'm not going to pass the benefits of my "era" onto the citizens that will follow me. I also believe that one should be able to have a .22, but not a friggin' howitzer. I'm a Christian and a catholic. As for abortions, I don't think they're right but I also don't think they're a simple enough issue to legislate. Oh, I also don't differentiate between terminating a fetus and killing a prisoner - meaning that I don't think capital punishment is right either. Fiscal conservatism is a must because it is the only way to ensure the fiscal health of our Republic - meaning that I think that its worse to "not-tax" and spend (like Shrub) than it is to just tax and spend. I also believe that, although wasteful at times, programs like welfare and medicare are NECESSARY for people and that we, as a communal species, exist to help each other. That is, as far as I can tell, what Jesus stood for - helping each other.

I'm someone who doesn't base his political affiliation on one issue but rather on his well contemplated and well researched beliefs - which defintely change from time to time. Nor do I base my vote on one issue - like gay marriage (but I do think its silly to criticize the gay community for promiscuity while simultaniously prohibiting its members from entering into unions that require mutual commitment and responsibility - a real conservative wouldn't oppose gay marriage - they would DEMAND it). As you can tell (and although I'm a pretty proud Dem) I certainly don't base my affiliation on being gay.

BUT YOU FRIGGIN' MORONS NEED TO GET A GOD DAMN GRIP AND REALIZE THAT YOU'RE VOTING AGAINST YOUR OWN FRIGGIN' INTERESTS AND SIDING WITH A GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT HATE YOU FOR WHO YOU ARE WHILE HATING THEMSELVES FOR WHO THEY ARE. GET A FRIGGING CLUE. YOU AREN'T GOING TO CHANGE THE GOP FROM THE INSIDE. THE ONLY THING THEY FRIGGIN' UNDERSTAND IS GETTING DEFEATED. THEY DON'T LIKE YOU. THEY ONLY WANT YOU FOR YOUR SELF-LOATHING VOTE.

GOOD GOD - WAKE THE HELL UP.

Oh yeah - thanks for handing Florida to W in 2000. If it weren't for you friggin' nimrods we wouldn't even be in this boat.

Wake up.

38. Exactly right
And they like to curry favor BECAUSE they're self loathing. I read a book once about how a small minority of slaves worked hand in glove with their masters spying on the rest of the slave population. It made them FEEL BETTER inside about being black and being persecuted. It made them almost feel white and powerful.

Same thing with the self loathing gays and lesbians. Matt Drudge and Tammy Bruce spring to mind. Springing to the whip of the GOP wasn't enough for them. They both have immersed themselves in the mindfuck of the Christian rightwing. They literally spew the garbage that is used to kill and oppress gays and lesbians.

It's given Matt a successful website and Tammy a small career writing bizarre books and having a bad radio show.

What it gives them in the long run is anybody's guess.

please remember there are 34% that still approve of * ,it doesn't matter what % of that 34% are gay people. Because the media can and will pull the wool over gay peoples eyes just like they can pull it over straight peoples eyes.

As long as the gay people don't try and float their boat in my ocean I don't care what they do. Because it is none of my business.

26. I hate hating them.
I share everyone else's loathing of them.

But, goddammit...we gay and lesbians have enough to deal with in America today...states that would relegate us to second class citizenship via ratifying anti same-sex marriage amendments...hate crimes....discrimination in housing, employment...not to mention hateful people who would promote "ex-gay" groups as a way of showing how "compassionate" they are towards homosexuals.

So, in that vein...for us gay and lesbian folks to fight among ourselves like this...while the religious right, our enemies, are solidily united...it makes me sick. I think the LOg Cabin Republicans are horribly misguided, to be generous. And I wish they would wake up and see that the people they support are their enemies.

27. kinda mixed feelings
On the one hand, it seems they're just Republicans who disagree with the party line on one issue. This generally happens with any issue that a party takes a position on, kinda like pro-life Democrats. There's no particular reason that someone can't be both conservative and gay.

However, the Republican party continually goes out of it's way to malign and attack gays just for being who they are, in a way that neither party does to other groups that disagree with the party line on one issue. It does mystify my that any gay person would want anything to do with a group that preaches such bigotry against them.

I'd love to see this country progress to the point where someone's sexual preference is a complete non-issue, at least politically speaking, but we are far from that point. While I certainly don't expect conservative gays to become Democrats over one issue, I cannot figure out why they would stay associated with a group that so overtly and publicly seeks to deny them basic rights.

which is something the Democratic Party, including the Stonewall Democrats, failed to do during the 2004 campaign.

Their politics may be wrong, their support for Republican policies despicable, but when it comes to LGBT marriage rights they are dead on!

Those of us on the trenches know that when it comes to fighting for full rights for LGBTs, one cannot rely on the letter "D" or "R" behind the name of a local legislator to determine who our friends are.

Why would you belong to a party where the vast majority would like to take you out and burn you at the stake? I especially think that after reading the "What We Believe" paragraph.
