8. Huh - THIS is kind of interesting. Rove's assistant was previously a
personal secretary for Jack Abramoff. Hmm. Veddy interesting. Are several of the Republican scandals about to merge or is this just a coinkidink?

"Ralston previously worked as a personal secretary to Jack Abramoff, the Republican power lobbyist now under investigation for allegedly defrauding Indian tribes who was recently indicted on conspiracy and wire fraud charges. While working with Abramoff, Ralston arranged fundraisers and events at Washington MCI Center skyboxes for members of Congress and their staff. Ralston communicated with Rove on Abramoff’s behalf on tribal affairs, though she does not stand accused of any wrongdoing."

12. I found that verrrrry
interesting, as well, yellowcanine. My feeling all along has been that all these scandals will eventually converge into one of humongous proportions that will either bring down the country once and for all, or will bring down the entire Bush cabal - (and with it a number of criminal congress critters). Let's just hope, for all our sake, that it's the former and that we can, finally, rid the WH of this scum, and save what's left of our country.

And thanks, Connie_Corleone and Bush_Eats_Beef for your welcome! :)

Peace &

Justess

18. Welcome to DU!
All roads lead to rove - which also means bush, because rove and bush are brothers under the skin and are interchangeable in their own sneaky-shit, scheming, manipulating, arrogant, petty, I'm-above-the-law powermonger mentality. It's a mentality and life-view, and even mission statement that they share.

Just as with "where there's smoke, there's fire," where there's rove, there's bush.

Glad you're here. Please help us

Visualize IMPEACHMENT!!!!!!!!
Then go DO something about it.

11. From the article, now posted on Raw:
Those close to the investigation say Fitzgerald will present evidence to the grand jury later this week obtained from other witnesses who were interviewed by the Special Prosecutor or testified, showing that Rove made misleading statements to Justice Department and FBI investigators in an attempt to cover-up his role in the leak when he was first interviewed about it in October 2003.

The most serious charges Rove appears to face are making false statements to investigators and obstruction of justice, the sources said. Rove does not appear to be in jeopardy of being charged with violating a law making it a crime to leak the name of a covert CIA agent because it’s unlikely that he was unaware that Plame was undercover, they added.

Rove’s conversation with Cooper took place a week or so before Plame’s identity was revealed publicly in a July 14, 2003 column penned by conservative columnist Robert Novak. Cooper wrote his own story about Plame a few days later. In his grand jury testimony, Rove said he first learned of Plame’s name from reporters, and only after her named was published did he discuss her CIA status with other journalists. That sequence of events, however, turned out to be false.

Two things are clear, the sources said: either Rove will agree to enter into a plea deal with Fitzgerald or he will be charged with a crime, but he will not be exonerated for the role he played in the leak.

13. Ok, but...
how can this be?:

"Rove does not appear to be in jeopardy of being charged with violating a law making it a crime to leak the name of a covert CIA agent because it’s unlikely that he was unaware that Plame was undercover, they added"

He won't be charged for outing a CIA because he wasn't unaware that she was undercover? Unaware or not, I thought it was a crime to out a cia agent.

14. That line threw me, too ...
... and I think it might be a typo, i.e. should have read 'likely he was unaware'.

If you take out the double negative, the sentence, as is, reads:
"... because it’s likely that he was aware that Plame was undercover."

Either that's an error in the column, or they just changed the law in the last few hours -- which, of course, is always possible these days!

16. You're right...
At the bottom of the article, it now says:

"Correction: Because of a double negative, an earlier version of this article incorrectly suggested that Rove was aware that Plame was a covert agent. He is not believed to have known that she was covert when he first spoke with reporters."
