Illegal to Legal -- with a wave of a magic pen
bush*'s plan to issue "guest worker" cards is a sham.

We already have avenues of immigration in place - it's called green cards, work visas and sanctuary. Yet bush* wants to add another layer of bureaucracy to the system

his plan is to issue guest worker cards to illegals - thus making them legal. Presto! HOCUS-POTUS! With a wave of a magic pen - the statistics on illegals will drop dramatically.

unfortunately - the problem is not solved - it just has new packaging.

Using the same "plan" we can also dramatically decrease crime -- just make the now illegal drugs legal. Legalizing drugs will eliminate an entire criminal class, free up jail space and bush* could point to be successful in decreasing crime.

in a nutshell - the bush* guest worker plan: Illegals will be issued a guest worker card - which now makes them legal

they will be able to use the card to stay in the country for 5 years. After 5 years - they are to return "voluntarily" to their country, stay there for 1 year and then they can apply for a a green card/work visa or whatever.

the big hole - return "voluntarily" to their country -- yeah right....

the 5 year thing is also a big LOOPHOLE for bush* - he won't be around in 5 years - so the problem becomes someone else's problem

1. I just do not understand how his "base"
is going to buy this. Every "illegal" is presto - chango a "guest worker" how does this do anything but encourage more "illegals" to come here.

Uuummmm, whaddaya think? Is this worker/immigrant friendly or . . . is this corporation friendly? Huh? Of course, it helps corporations by keeping cheap labor coming and not have the immigration-police knocking at the corporate door w/ fines and jail and removal of "employees."

This program also doesn't allow these immigrants to become citizens (it ships them back "home") so that means the Dems don't get their vote.

And, who is against immigrants? Why of course, the radical rightwingnut bible-thumpers in their nativist politics crapola.

So, how does this help Republicans? Hhhmmmm? This would be funny if it weren't so damn serious. Somebody in Dumbya's back office thought this one through.

3. Is Bush *inviting* (semi) illegal immigrants again?
Like what he did when there was talk of providing divers' licences to illegal immigrants?

These immigrants will provide cheap labor to those corporations for which outsourcing is not an option. Also it creates a nice political wedge issue for them to exploit - while pandering to both sides of the issue; it was only yesterday when he announced to use unmanned drones along the mexican border to prevent illegal immigrants from entering.

4. "Guest Workers" = permanent underclass
Bush's idea would create a group of legally recognized quasi-slaves in the "Land Of The Free". Immigrant workers are ALREADY abused by their employers & fearful of authorities. Any "guest worker" program wouldn't do anything to alleviate that problem - it would make it worse.

Anyone who comes here & works hard, contributes to the economy & pays taxes should benefit fully in everything this society has to offer. So-called "illegal aliens" do more for this country than any GOP trust fund baby ever could.

5. I can honestly say I loathe the guest worker program idea.
After all, it's worked out so wonderfully in Sweden and Germany.
