A Congressional Election THIS Tuesday!
No matter where you live, you can help beat the GOP in the OC
You can especially help if you're in or near Orange County, CA

From the Official OC Grassroots website: http://www.ocgrassroots.com/

We won! Now FULL SPEED AHEAD on STEVE YOUNG'S election to Congress!

On December 6th Steve Young will go up against the ultra-conservative
Republican candidate to fill Chris Cox's seat in Congress. Call 949
640-4400 to volunteer NOW!

For the locals this weekend: Pizza and Postcards! Bring the kids if they
can put stamps on postcards. It's fun to meet other Democrats, enjoy
some political "gossip," and add short personal notes to pre-printed
postcards directed to newly registered Democrats. Pizza and drinks are
on Steve!

e meet at headquarters for continental breakfast and a variety of
campaign activity - 9 am on Saturdays and 10 am on Sundays. We have
postcards to address, literature to assemble, precincts to walk, and
numbers to call.

Campaign headquarters is at 101 Pacifica, Suite 240, Irvine, 92618 -
near the Irvine Spectrum. Mapquest: http://tinyurl.com/7rfnd The phone
number is 949 649-4400, and Marion Pack is Field Director.

From "The Pen":

MAKE CONGRESS DEBATE AND VOTE ON THE ORIGINAL MURTHA RESOLUTION

We put a call out to all candidates who want to win, and Steve Young,
fighting for the people in normally conservative Orange County, CA, in a
special house election coming up Dec. 6, took us up on our offer to
create action pages for him on his own campaign site. Steve is
demonstrating his leadership right NOW by working to rally support for
serious consideration of the real Murtha resolution. Please submit the
action form below to help bring this issue and his campaign the national
attention and focus it deserves

ACTION PAGE: http://www.steveyoungforcongress.com/murtha_resolution.php

We are told that people from all over the country can help with the
campaign, as they will be doing virtual phone banks. But especially if
you are in Southern California, you can make a real impact by helping to
get out the vote in this last test election before 2006. If Steve wins
or makes a strong showing in this red district, it will have great
influence on other congress people who are not yet listening to the
voice of the people.

Tim Carpenter, PDA National Director writes:

Dear Friend,

I am writing personally to urge you to join me and the entire PDA team
in helping get out the vote for Steve Young, PDA's first Congressional
endorsement, in a special election to be held this coming Tuesday,
December 6, 2005 in Orange County California. Steve is running against
two conservatives, Republican State Senator John Campbell and American
Independent, Jim Gilchrist, founder of the border vigilante group, the
Minute Man Project. If they split the Republican vote, and PDA helps
turn out at least 100,000 voting Democrats in the district, Steve and
PDA will make history. A victory for Steve is a victory for all
Progressives!

Because Steve's race is so important, I will be on the ground in
California from this Saturday through Election Day helping to get out
the progressive Democratic vote. I need your help as well.

There are three important things you can do:

1. Please join the Virtual Phone Bank. No matter where you live, help
make phone calls to encourage Orange County Democrats to get out and
vote. Your computer and a phone is all you need. Just send an e-mail to
Dr. Bill, the Orange County PDA coordinator, at honeyman4@aol.com, and
in the subject line type "Virtual Phone Bank." Then, in the body of your
message, tell Dr. Bill how many blocks of calls you will be able to
make. One block represents 50 phone numbers. Dr. Bill will send you back
a log-in and password for each block you request, as well as
instructions for calling and downloading a phone script. I needn't tell
you how important a victory like this would be for PDA and for America.

2. If at all possible, please join Steve and me at the next Orange
County PDA meeting this coming Monday December 5, 2005 at 7:00 pm. We
will meet at Steve's headquarters, 101 Pacifica, Suite 240, Irvine, on
the corner of Barancca and Pacifica about 1/2 mile east of the Irvine
Spectrum and diagonal across Barancca from the Doubletree Hotel.
Mapquest: http://tinyurl.com/7rfnd

Please bring your cell phone. I will update you regarding National PDA
matters, we will hear from Steve, and then we will all get to work, some
of us making phone calls and others leafleting movie theater lines.

3. Join the "YOUNG FOR CONGRESS" human billboard campaign on election
day. We will be in the streets on Election Day urging voters to vote for
Steve! There will be two shifts: one from 6:30 AM - 8:30 AM and then
again from 5:00 PM -7:30 PM. If you can join us for any part of those
times please email me at Tim@pdamerica.org. PDA activists from across
the country are helping with this important effort. I hope you can too.

Working together PDA is building the progressive wing of the Democratic
Party in Orange County and across the nation. In a sense we've already
won. PDA has become much stronger in Orange County as a result of
Steve's campaign. And PDA is committed to continue building the
progressive wing of the Democratic Party well beyond this one special
election on December 6.

I look forward to working with you on this Orange County election, and
to our work together on many election campaigns to come.

Please, help in any way you can. Nobody else can take your place!

In peace,

Tim Carpenter, PDA National Director

STATEMENT OF THE STEVE YOUNG CAMPAIGN

Dear Members and Friends:

This week saw the first major step towards the beginning of the end of
the Iraq War. A decorated Marine Corps veteran with 37 years of service,
a Bronze Star, and two Purple Hearts, Representative John Murtha stood
before the world and called for the immediate commencement of American
military withdrawal from Iraq. It was a watershed moment.

"Because we in Congress are charged with sending our sons and daughters
into battle, it is our responsibility, our obligation, to speak out for
them. That's why I am speaking out."

We write to you today on behalf of Steve Young, a man of principle,
currently fighting incredible odds to bring this same message to the
public and the Congress in the upcoming special election for Congress in
Orange County, California's Congressional District 48.

In a radio interview last week, Steve suggested that we look to the
successful solution to the Lebanese civil war for precedent and work
with the Arab League to find a long-term solution in Iraq and sure
enough, Arab League leader Amre Moussa this week called for America's
withdrawal. Steve looks for forward seeking solutions yet with the
education of historical precedent.

How many of our present problems could have been avoided if we had a
Congress made up of people like Steve Young who actually studied a
situation before taking action?
