Environmental Groups Urge Soil Cleanup in New Orleans, EPA is in Denial
December 2nd, 2005
Combating the long term effects on the environment from the toxic stew stirred up by Hurricane Katrina will likely be a battle that environmentalists will be waging for some time.
The latest news on this subject comes from environmentalists who say that, “New Orlean’s parks and yards will be contaminated with dangerous chemicals and heavy metals for years unless the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency orders a widespread cleanup of areas flooded by Hurricane Katrina.” The EPA is denial that there is a problem with soil and it could pose long-term health problems for those who choose to move back to the area.
The assessment, presented by the Natural Resources Defense Council and several Louisiana groups, was a stark contrast to statements by state and federal agencies that contamination does not appear to be widespread.
As to be expected from the worst environmental administration in history, the EPA claims they have not found soil contamination in New Orleans “to be something warranting a major cleanup, and state regulators say they haven’t found a need to remove large amounts of sediment.” Sounds like shades of the air around the World Trade Center was safe to breathe, doesn’t it. This administration doesn’t care about the environment, every environmental agency under this administration is headed by polluters, corporate energy whores and hacks posing as environmental scientists.
