Iran and Iraq Shiites
Could someone point me to articles concerning their relationship?

1. I'll look for some stuff by Juan Cole
From what I understand, most Shi'ites in Iraq are not interested in Iranian domination - they're Arabs while the Iranians are mostly Persians and Azeris.

However, during Saddam Hussein's time, when political opposition was crushed, the Iranian government sponsored opposition Islamist parties in order to obtain influence in a post-Saddam Iraq. Thus came about the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution (SCIRI) and the Dawa Party. They are completely under the patronage of the Iranian government and security services. Because they're the only major opposition in the South, they quickly gained a foothold after the US rushed in and their militias have taken control of the country.

Although I could be wrong, my understanding is that most Iraqi Shi'ites see themselves as apart from Iranians.

3. Okay, here are a couple from The Nation

Those are a couple. My guess is some sleuthy Googling will turn up some stuff. Foreign Affairs has some good stuff too - check their website. There's a great one I remember reading a year back called "The Shi'ites and Iraq" but you need a subscription to read the whole thing. (I don't have one either.) Maybe take down the name and check the article out at your library if they have it.
