Ever here that? From a Republican relative or freind who isn't paying attention to reality and living in a Faux world of propaganda?

I think we really need to hone our responses to these facile arguments for the stupid, but nice people we love, or like or well, they are Americans who are just misguided after all. Maybe they we dropped on their head as a kid or irratiated... whatever. What do you say to that for the addle brain?

1) I agree.... But 'over there' is Afghanistan and NOT Iraq, remember...Osama was in Afghanistan. Now I hear the Taliban is back and remember Mullah Omar...well he just broke out these guys... here.. look at this NYTimes.. (Show Jethro this)

1. Well, tell him to get his ass over there, then, and ask him what is this
"WE" shit? Off to the recruiter with him!!!!! If he is too old, tell him to send his kids, or volunteer to help the recruiters round up children!

2. FROM WHAT I HEAR
they are preparing to come over here. They have an entire air force filled with cargo planes, c-5, etc, to load their troops on board and fly them here. They have a fleet of liberty style ships loaded with insurgent troops, ready to go but mostly, they have thousands of humvees, buses, trucks and Mercedes Benz troop vehicles, gassing up now.\

Reporters from Al Jezeera have been imbedded with the troops to report on the invasion. Red Crescent coffee and flafal units are preparing snacks. and M*U*S*H units are forming up. M*U*S*H stands for Muslim Untrained Surgical Hoohas.

We better duck. I gotta duck. Wanna Buy A Duck?

:silly:

3. Alternative Explanation

We have to fight the Republicans over Iraq so we don't have to fight them over domestic policy.

Imagine the social damage the Pugs might have done if they hadn't expended their political capital and public trust over a godforsaken invasion of Iraq, and covering up the actions that lead to it.

4. It's true. Why should they come here when they have easy targets there?
Why's that an argument in favor of the war? If you're playing a basketball game, do you want to play it at home or in the opposing team's backyard?

The way I argue is of course that's true. It's what they were hoping for all along, but in their wildest dreams they didn't think it would happen. Why should they go to the trouble to come here if they've got the perfect scenario with us over there? It's a perfect argument for recruiting future terrorists, they've got Americans with a bull-s eye on their backs, perfect targets in the middle of Iraq where it's easy to make bombs and sneak in bomb-making material thru highly porous borders, etc.

I recently heard somebody who has written a book about Al-
Qaida etc., the terrorist orgs, say that a booklet intercepted from Al-Qaida now available to the military that was translated from Arabic said this very thing. As long as Americans are in Iraq, there's no reason to focus elsewhere, they argue in the booklet. It wd be stupid to do so, but once we leave they will indeed focus on us here. It will be harder to kill us in large numbers, especially if we have an administration in after the war that is half-way competent, but that's what they'll do when we no longer make it easy for them by being easy targets in Iraq.

6. if fighting them over there so we don't fight them over here
is such a good plan -- then why do we have terra-lerts? seems to me that if all of them over there are over there and not over here then there would be no need for terra-lerts over here...

7. Even if that approach was working, which it isn't, it would still be
horribly wrong.

Because, when you think about it, you can substitute "over here" with "rich people" and "over there" with "poor people".

So when they repeat that slogan they might as well be saying: "why should we risk rich people over here when we can send poor people over there to take the hit?"

Of course, the other slightly large problem with it is that it is not in fact making the rich people over here any safer. In reality everyone loses except Halliburton, oil execs and the politicians that they have bought.

8. Explain it in simple terms:
Edited on Sun Dec-04-05 08:34 AM by CJCRANE
Let's say a few guys from a much bigger and far away neighbourhood had come and attacked you. However, in general it was very difficult for more of their guys to get to your neighbourhood.

Would you then make the trek all the way to their neighbourhood with a few of your boys and start beating up passersby?

No, it doesn't make sense, you would be sitting ducks and you would end up with more of your boys getting hurt.
