Nine Veterans running for Office ~ EIGHT of them are Democrats!
http://www.boston.com/news/politics/us_house/articles/2005/11/27/veterans_take_on_new_battle_run_for_office?mode=PF

..."The veterans are running in Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, Maryland, and Minnesota. More are likely to announce as the primary season heats up, party officials predict."

Some of them will have some huge hurdles.. But good luck to all of them anyway! :patriot:

Bryan Lentz, a Democratic candidate for Congress in Pennsylvania, is among a group of Iraq war veterans who are seeking office next year. The Army major in the 82d Airborne helped rebuild the northern city of Mosul.

1. Right Wing Forums are already slamming the vets
Unless the vets run as Republicans, they are ready to smear them. Hard and cold.

2. Well... we don't have a Democratic version of Karl Rove...
But I'm not so sure we need one..

Hopefully, his ass will be in the slammer before the next election and Americans will continue to realize what the Bush Administration is all about..

Now a legitimate argument can be made against Duckworth because of her inexperience but its obvious that this poster and others have a problem with her military background as well.

For the record I'm support Duckworth's candidacy.

10. Look what happened when Clark announced...
a LOT of knee-jerking from liberals who loathe the military.

12. Yes, that was/is ridiculous.
I remember Michael Moore saying that Clark was a "gift." That he could be a great democratic president, but also give the democratic ticket a lot of credibility. Since many people see dems as soft on terror and defense, and 2004 was the first election after 9-11, and we were in Iraq, a respected general would win many "terror" voters over.

But alas, that seemed to be why many dems didn't want to nominate him.

I also thought that the fact Clark voted for Reagan would allow him to connect with independents and disgruntled republicans. Someone on DU recently said something to the effect of "I find I am able to persuade republicans better when I don't come accross as blindly supporting every democrat."

But alas, that seemed to be why many dems didn't want to nominate him.

I do think people are warming up to Clark more as time goes on though.

or will the 'Dem 8' all be attacked by the Swifties? The Repubs manage to follow the same script all the time. Their vet would be the only, 'true vet.':sarcasm:

Edit: For sleepy error...

6. Ready to see the Repuke version of "Support our Troops"?
Edited on Sun Dec-04-05 08:11 AM by OneTwentyoNine
To those fucks your only worth the time and effort of support if your in an Oil/Corporate sponsored War. Hell yes...they'll gladly support 20 year olds that are getting killed and maimed if it means buckets of CASH,barrels of Oil and fat ass contracts rolling in.

Let a soldier that has served and is now running for office criticize the War and our policy's and watch how Repuke "support" fades to all out smearing and criticizing.

7. Let's not forget Hackett in Ohio since this article completely ignored
this fact. And one of the most outspoken ones to boot.

9. Poor choice to highlight.
Apparently DCCC is foisting Lentz on the county Dems in PA-7 who already have a candidate, Paul Scoles.

I won't argue the merits of each here. However the point is, where does the national party come off undermining the local party?

Personally, I don't think being a veteran is a necessary or sufficient qualification for being a U.S. Representative. Nor is being a veteran a necessary or sufficient cause for torpedoing another candidate who has put a lot of effort into building the party from the grassroots. But then, I guess that's just me.

11. it doesn't surprise me that there are pleny of iraq vet democrats
Putting aside the fact that they've seen first hand the disaster that chimpy and his gang created, the all-volunteer army draws a lot of folks from lower income and minority backgrounds -- folks who personally experienced the "fawn over the rich and the white, ignore the poor and minority" attitude that characterizes the repubs.

I think its great that they are stepping up.
