"An upswing in violence sure indicates that the insurgents are giving up"

Hadley defends Cheney's " Last Throes" statement

Hadley is making the rounds today. For some reason his talking points were a little off in this exchange.

Video-QT

Think Progress has full exchange posted.

WALLACE: But, Mr. Hadley, with respect, I don’t think you answered my question. Was the vice president mistaken last May when he talked about an insurgency in its last throes, given the fact that almost 500 American troops have been killed since then?

HADLEY: The violence is continuing, as I said in my answer to the prior question. We have made clear we thought the violence was probably going to go up in this period.

An upswing in violence sure indicates to me that the insurgents are giving up.

1. Spin, spin
His logic is unfathomable. The upswing in violence is an indication that more people are joining the insurgents and giving them support and cover.

9. belies that whole RW canard...
that the Left is happy when US soldiers get killed/we want the terrorists to win, etc. If an upswing in bombings is good news, and an upswing in bombings means more US soldiers die, then isn't the death of a US soldier good news?

3. LOL!
"An upswing in violence sure indicates to me that the insurgents are giving up."

Maybe this is what this Admin is talking about, when they make speeches about 'victory' in Iraq. Once every last Iraqi man, woman and child, and every American soldier serving in Iraq are all dead and gone, the insurgency will be over -- AND WE WILL HAVE WON!

Just when you think you've heard the STUPIDEST Repug response to something, another one comes along and tops it!

11. Yea, it's GOP talk for they, the chosen enemy, are getting desparate......
The native combatants in a war zone are really killing people. It's really no matter some type of explosive of one sort or another have had reign on the area for DECADES.

4. Yeah, and
If I go to work tomorrow, that's a sure sign I'm going to quit my job. If I pay my Visa bill, that's a sure sign I'm out of money.

7. Love this comment:
"The upswing in polar ice cap melting indicates to me that the earth is cooling down.

The upswing in bankruptcies indicates to me that the economy is improving.

The upswing in government obfuscation indicates to me that fewer children are being left behind."

13. i am thankful that none of these guys coach my fave teams
i am imagining jon gruden standing on the sidelines of a bucs game, looking at the score board and seeing that the bucs are down 17-0 and thinking to himself "we've got them right where we want them, because everytime they score we get closer to winning."

14. What color is the sky in Hadley's world?
Because he sure isn't living in this one!

Reminds me of the old saw about mosquitos. The male mosquito buzzes, in hopes of attracting a mate. The female mosquito does not buzz, but it is the one that bites. So, if you hear a mosquito buzzing in your ear, go back to sleep. But if you hear NOTHING . . .
