Dear Arnold: If you're not going to commute Williams then plz retire
You ran a campaign back in 2003 that you were a "Man of the People" and that you were going to return California back to the people.

Then you didn't get your way in congress and cost tax payers millions of dollars to run a special election that the people you claim you supported didn't really want. All along you took amazing amounts of campaign contributions from special interest groups & corporations that put Gray Davis, the former governor you replaced because you said he was so corrupt" to shame.

In less than a year the people will go back to the polls and decide whether or not you deserve a full 4 year term back in office. And at this point it's not looking good. You're popularity ranks just a little bit better than Gov Taft of Ohio and that man is scandal-ridden with problems.

So if you really really care about the people that you were suppose to come into office and represent then do one good thing during your tenure and that is to overturn the death penalty for Stanley "Tookie" Williams. It seems the people want him spared from lethal injection and only your special interest friends & republican conservatives feel otherwise.

First and foremost, if I had it my way I say just overturn ALL of the death penalties in your state since the death penalty is barbaric and makes us no better than the terrorist regimes we criticize. Civilized Nations do not use the Death Penalty as a method of punishment.

Second, no one is asking you to free Williams. Williams, the founder of one of the bloodiest street gangs the Crips, probably deserves to be in jail. But during his time of incarceration Williams has turned his life around. He has found God and he writes children's books to teach them to stay away from the life of gangs. Williams may spend the rest of his life behind bars but he has become one of your strongest allies in the war against Gangs in California. Make the condition of sparing Williams life that he spend the rest of his life behind bars being the voice for the anti-gang movement.

So Arnold, now is the time to prove that you are the governor of the people by commuting William's death penalty sentence to life in jail. Everyone in Hollywood supports this move so please Arnold - do the right thing!

1. not gonna happen......
You say "It seems the people want him spared from lethal injection and only your special interest friends & republican conservatives feel otherwise."

I doubt that claim. I'll bet if you polled every American, Tookie would get the short end of the stick.

Tough decision, one which I am glad I don't have to make.

5. In my religion, you must pay for your sins, there is no free lunch
by simply repenting about your evil deeds. You will be
re-incarnated based on your good deeds and bad combined.
Only when your good deeds reach a very high plateau will
you then reach "nirvana" which is aprox equivalent of
heaven in christianity.

Personally, I am not a big believer in religious dogma.
I prefer to trust in the goodness inherent in every human
being.

As for Tookie Williams, from what I know about the vicious
murders he has committed, he should have hanged long ago.
Giving him a reprieve based on his convenient conversion to
"finding God" violates at the minimum separation of state and
church.

6. How has he become a strong ally in this war on gangs?
He steadfastly refuses to debrief the police on the ways and methods of the Crips. Says he would never "snitch". How is he helping by withholding information that could shut the whole operation down? By not revealing anything he is signaling to his minions that he is still "down" and those kids on the street who look up to him will stick to their guns. If he were to turn state's evidence he would send a real message. As it is his actions are empty, done only in an attempt to save his own skin.

This guy deserves the DP more than anyone outside of the pedophile murderers.

7. Get real
I think they're are many more people more deserving of clemency than "Tookie", the person they put to death with a I.Q. under 80 didn't cause a uproar like this. I'm against the death penalty but this is not the case to hang your'e hat on.

9. I understand AH-Nuld is taking the matter up -- studying the request, any
way... Putting the condemned man aside for a moment, it is interesting to speculate on what AHNULD will do, and why.

--Will he go to the religious card (he and Maria are Catholic) and say 'thou shalt not kill?'

--Will he commute for political reasons? Or condemn for political reasons? What is the sense of the voting public in CA on this issue?

--Will he decide that he isn't comfortable 'putting someone down,' despite his movie roles where he kills a kazillion people in every scene? Or will he feel he HAS to refuse the request BECAUSE he is an action actor who totes weapons around in every film?

My sense of AHNULD is that he is all about AHNULD. Whatever decision he makes will have less to do with the condemned man, the families involved, or his conscience than it has to do with his political view of the situation.
