Ed Schultz -AND- Al Franken added to Armed Forces Radio (as of today!)
In the "Ed Head e-mail" that Big Eddie sends out daily, he mentioned that his show was FINALLY going on the air today on AFR.

I didn't catch Al Franken today.. but evidently, he told listeners that he was also being added to the line-up today. That one surprised me! :o

If you pull up the Armed Forces Radio Schedule, they are both now included in the Monday thru' Friday programming schedule!

Big Eddie - 1200 hours M > F
Al Franken - 1700 hours M > F

:patriot: ~~ :patriot: ~~ :patriot: ~~ :patriot: ~~ :patriot: ~~ :patriot:

Congratulations Al and Eddie!

4. I figured Eddie would eventually go on.. but who knew Al would too?
I didn't even know Al was trying to get on?

Ed said a couple days ago that "Slant Head" was pissed off and is demanding he also be added.

Thanks to DU for filling me in on who "Slant Head" is BTW.. I had no idea who he was talking about!!

DU'ers know everything!

6. Al is the soldier's friend, he has made the USO rounds to Afghanistan
more than once. He's very good on the tour, too, so I hear.

I believe. Those guys probably sure need a good laugh.

7. I'd like to give Hillary Clinton credit for helping make it happen by...
busting Rumsfeld and others' balls. Hillary gets bashed here a lot, so it's time we credit her for something.

9. OK. But don't forget Clark generated about 25,000 petition signatures
when AFR took back their deal with Schultz. Schultz directly credits that campaign by Clark for getting AFR to reverse itself and let him on after all.

You said it, orleans. She was in the Air Force, if I'm not mistaken.

And, she's till a trooper putting herself out on a limb, daily for us.

Good call.

14. I love her show, she's deserving, but...
too much truth can be agony if you're trapped serving in a war based on lies?

Some serious 'cognitive dissonance' would result.

33. That makes her doubly dangerous to the Bush Crime Family.
You won't find her pushing the troops into an illegal war or extending their stay in one by saying she is supporting the troops.
She doesn't have to wrap herself up in the flag -- she served it and the Constitution for which it stands.

29. Stripes letter on Franken et al in today's paper
Happy to have both sides
One of the things in our country that is truly great is the ability of its citizens to examine both sides of the political issues (“What’s next? Al Franken?” letter, Nov. 20). The letter writer states that “personnel might not want to hear” a liberal radio host on American Forces Network. He also stated the plight of servicemembers in “having the misfortune of seeing far too much CNN and MSNBC.” I can only assume he believes that he speaks for everyone in a uniform who is serving their country overseas.

I’d like to respectfully assert that the writer does not speak for me. I would also like to point out that Fox News Channel is shown just as much, if not more, than CNN or MSNBC on the AFN news channel. I don’t listen to AFN Radio much, but if Rush Limbaugh can be scheduled, why not someone from the other side of the political spectrum?

I would also like to remind the letter writer, if he was not aware, that Franken has gone to Iraq twice on United Service Organizations tours. Franken has also stated several times on his show that he supports and appreciates all the sacrifices and heroism shown by the men and women of the armed forces, and has broken down in tears over patients he has visited at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. That’s kind of a funny way to be “anti-military.”

Tech. Sgt. Benjamin Kratzer

25. I don't think so.
Soldiers aren't stupid.

They know when they are being used.

Your assertion that "GIs are easily persuadable" is not what I observed in my years in the Army infantry.

23. I guess Randi is too hot for them to handle, but
it's good that Al and Ed made it, keeping them from being one sided all the time. Al goes to Iraq to entertain the troops with the USO every now and then so I guess he has an audience there.

which is why I never listen to AFN.

That will change. :)

28. This is FANTASTIC news!
I always thought is was sickening...the disdain the DOD had for soldiers in not letting them hear both sides of an argument and make up their own minds.

These aren't simple minded children...they are grown adults and they DESERVE to hear as much information as they can.

This is a great day.

because daytime in the Pacific US would be night time in the Middle East. Or do they have a separate schedule for overseas bases?

Anyhoo, it's excellent that Al and big Eddie are finally on AFN!

Remember that
Officers --> wealthy --> Republicans???

Enlisted soldiers --> working class --> ???Democrats???
