Regarding Joe Lieberman staying... Weiker says he may run(DU this Poll)
as an independent, mostly to show how the new campaign finance law in CT discriminates against independents. WTIC has an opinion poll http://www.wtic.com/poll/

I would vote for Weiker any day as an Indi.... He is against the war and also was on the panel that indicted Nixon...

1. Interesting that nearly 60% say no
I always admired Weiker-does he carry political baggage in his home state that outsiders might not know about?

3. Nothing apparent
The poll is probably being freeped.

See Weicker's profile in wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lowell_Weicker

6. The poll now favors Weiker, Plus I'm not to sure about Wikipedia
it lists Dodd as the Senator to precede Weiker but Lieberman is the senator who beat Weiker.... unless it meant that Dodd then became the senior senator...

13. I think it is probably talking about Dodd's father, who was also
a U.S. Senator.

4. For many who remember who brought CT the state income tax
Weicker is not very popular. This poll, of course, includes not only them but other Republicans, Dems and Greens.

I like Weicker and thought the income tax was not only fiscally responsible but also a progressive trade off with lowering the sales tax. But with CT being the state with the highest per capita income in the US you can just imagine the outcry at the time he brought it in.

A good debate in our state on the Iraq war will be a good thing. We all need to hear Joe in our local areas 'splain himself. Weicker, too, if he wants to redux himself.

10. To begin with, he's a Democrat
And while some myopic folks hate him for his war stance, his stance on issues such as reproductive choice, the environment, workers' rights, health care, Social Security, etc., is quite good.

14. Would you like to have Zell Miller back...
Get rid of him. A supposed dem who is constantly kissing repuglican ass is worthless. The only thing positive about Gore losing the election is that we don't have Lieberman as VP. He can go to hell.

to not having a Democrat in Zell Miller's seat....

Of course, if you want to pretend that the only issue in the world is the war in Iraq, then I can understand why you hate Joe Lieberman. But Connecticut voters don't share that opinion.

16. That's a good question
In my section of CT Dems, we feel he's not that sure on choice. The anti-war folks really don't like his stand on the war, and some of us remember how his daughter had to twist his arm to vote against Clarence Thomas. On the other hand, some middle of the road Dems see him as an acceptable Democrat in the Senate, a kind of statesman, and they liked the fact that he was chosen to be on Gore's ticket. On the diversity side I like the fact that he is an Orthodox Jew. But I sure have mixed feelings on him!
