Murtha on NBC Today Show
Katie Couric interviewed him... he was GREAT, hit all the points in the short time alloted to him. I believe he persuaded some of the "unsure" and disconnected out there. Someone post a link when available, please.

5. i just saw the tail of it when i was channel surfing. ipaused long enough
on mute to appreciate the images, not the sounds fearing that katie k.
would probably drown him out with "yes, but" interruptions.

(also... i am drawn by your Miss. Gulfcoast picture. Part of my family roots are in Mississippi: Jackson, Learned, Raymond, Edwards.
But my question is ... isn't Haley Barbour doing anything for the Miss. Gulf Coast. Bush's Fema has probabl stuffed his pockets with lots of FEMA dollars enough for him to buy votes... or perhaps i am missing something.)

Greed must be a very powerful thing...it is the only explanation i can come up with as to why the mediawhores silence truth tellers and spout bushes lies, spins, and snarls.

8. Oh, she yes, butted all through his conversation
I don't know what Barbour has or has not gotten. I know people who need help aren't getting any. Winter is coming and people are in tents. This is gonna be a cold cold week down there.

4. Yes, but who was on after him unchallenged to scream about how much
Murtha hates the troops and is unpatriotic and un-American and a coward?

7. the following segment was the NYC premier of "King Kong"
and MSNBC just played a sound bite from the Today Show Murtha interview.. Murtha saying "this is not a PR war, this is a REAL war, this is not about Jack Murtha, it's about changing direction, we NEED to change direction.."

I understand your cynicism, but if Murtha keeps popping up in the MSM like this, he WILL bring enough people around to make a difference. And when he does, some of the Democratic sheep in Congress will, too.

Murtha was GREAT, compelling and credible, and Today is watched by many millions. The WH already tried and failed to smear Murtha. They are sending Cheney out to speak to returning troops from Iraq this morning- that's their counter-offensive, but it ain't working. This morning's news about 2 female suicide bombers blowing up a police station and killing 36 will squash the "We are winning in Iraq" noise coming from Cheney's mouth.

One of Murtha's central points this morning was (not verbatim- from memory) "we are NOT fighting terror in Iraq, we are fighting an insurgency, we are not fighting terrorists, we are fighting insurgents.... terrorists make up just 7% of people fighting us and al Qaeda is a small percentage of them. The Wh has been trying to say we are fighting terror in Iraq but that is not the case..."

He also mentioned (favorably) Bush 41 in comparison with 43.

Couric let Murtha speak interrupted for a few minutes, but then posed a long, pontificating, question so for those who caught the end of it, that did not reflect the entire interview. Murtha really used his time to hit most of the points we are familiar with.

Maybe C&L will have a link up later... I can't convey the substance adequately, you should watch it.

Another one to watch was retired General Odom's interview on MSNBC "Hardball" last night. OMG.... he was GREAT. He has stated (and re-stated) that invading Iraq was the biggest strategic disaster for the US in HISTORY. The man is no Liberal; he served under Reagan. That merits a separate thread.

10. Murtha also said ...
that if we withdraw, the Sunni insurgency would turn against the 7% of insurgents who are Al Qaeda forces ... he said we should leave "the sooner the better" ... and he said that we should be out of there completely within 6 months ...

he said troops could be redeployed to Kuwait and Okinawa and that enough troops needed to be kept available to take out a terrorist camp if necessary ...

Murtha reiterated his position that NOTHING more can be accomplished in Iraq militarily ... those who believe troops should remain even one more day should explain why they disagree with this ...

Democrats should get behind Murtha instead of continuing to foolishly talk about "plans for success" that involve continued occupation ... yesterday, Democratic Party Chairman, Howard Dean, suggested that the US should get all troops out of Iraq within two years ... TWO YEARS!!!! he can't possibly be serious ...

11. right on, welshTerrior2!
thanks- my memory is not what it used to be!

The part about Sunnis expelling al Qaeda once the US is out is a very important point, which we have not been hearing from (nearly) anyone else. Murtha said it twice this morning, I believe, and the second time added (not verbatim) "Iraqi's are a very proud people, they will not allow al Qaeda to operate there..." General Odom made this point on "Harball" last night as well. He said that Iraqis would throw al Qaeda out once the Americans were out. Another great point by Odom was about how "ridiculous, absurd" the notion of a "war on TERROR" was- that "Terror" is a tactic.. he said it would be like declaring a "war on a left-flank approach" or a "war on night ______" (don't remember, it was a military term).I will start a thread if I can find the Odom video link online somewhere.

Amazing!

Why can't we hear more of this common sense from our Democratic Leaders, instead of them repeating the RW propaganda and meaningless drivel? History DOES repeat itself because our leaders are morally corrupt and STUPID.
