5. Kind of disappointing that Cambell and Gilchrist
got a combined higher % of the vote than Cox last year.

Orange County is GOP land.

At least Young didn't finish third.

11. Special elections when only really motivated voters even bother to vote
as opposed to 2004 which was a Presidential one where many, especially red Orange County in Blue CA do.

Still, as I have said from the beginning. There are 100,000 registered Democrats in the district. If only half of them were voting for Young, he would have won.

The message, really is that, first, the Republican National committee was scared enough to throw $250K into this race that normally the Republican would just sail through. Second - getting out the votes should be the most important goal next year... once the message is clear. I think that Steve Young's message started a bit late.

7. Who is Jim Gilchrist? How did he render 23% of the vote?
Something's very fishy.

8. NM! OMG! I found it. Read below...
Apparently, he's the founder of "The Minutemen". You know the group of whackjobs "guarding" our border with Mexico.

This guy apparently was taking away Republican votes and a lot of "undecided voters".
