OHIO Tea Party: If Ohio Doesnt Count Your Vote, Dont Pay Ohio Tax
The citizens of Ohio are in the same situation that our Founders were in back in the late 18th century. They are being taxed without representation. Since they are being deprived of the right to have their vote counted fairly, they have no power to fix the broken election system in their state through the usual legal channels.

This did not stop the Founders. They held what has since been dubbed The Boston Tea Party. John Adams, later to become the 2nd president of the United States, spoke glowingly of the men who dressed as Natives and boarded a merchant ship to throw its cargo of tea into Boston harbor.

What I am suggesting to the citizens of Ohio is much safer, simpler and not at all illegal. I suggest an OHIO Tea Party. Start petitions in which the goal is to gather as many signatures as possible. People vow not to pay Ohio state taxes as long as their vote is not being counted. One way to withhold tax is to buy as much as possible out of state to avoid sales tax. Via the internet is one possibility. This will be an immediate burden to the state. If it is possible to barter without paying taxes, start getting goods through bartering. If there is a state income tax, hint that people MIGHT withhold that. Since no taxes have been withheld YET, no crime has been committed. Start a national boycott of the state so that people from outside Ohio do not contribute to the state via sales tax, hotel taxes etc. People who HAVE to visit can stay with people instead, free food and lodgings, spend no money in the state (think of it as visiting Cuba)

I suspect that if you get enough signatures on the petition, you wont have to carry the plan too far. The Democrats control one legislatuve body, dont they? They need to be jumped started into action.

Here is the art work I cam up with for an invitation.

Do not despair, citizens of Ohio. Get back to your American Revolutionary roots. What would Tom Paine, Samual Adams and the rest have done?

1. The dems control nothing at the state level
That is why it is impossibe to get any progressive legislation passed. We can't even get bills to the floor for a vote. I'm not despairing, just planning to work harder than ever in the coming year. We have a chance to make some in roads if we play our cards right. A lot will depend on our choice for state party chairman. Thanks for your input.

2. I don't think this will help the situation.

Any Republican would simply point to the fact that there are still Democrats in the legislature no matter how conservative or progressive they are. They are represented. They would argue to imply otherwise would be to say that there are no Democrats in the Ohio House.

I'm playing devil's advocate by splitting hairs, but if I can do it, the Repubs will most assuredly be attacking you through this avenue.

3. Silly, silly, silly.
1) Not paying Ohio income tax will land you in jail.

2) Ohio has a tax provision where you're required to pay tax on internet purchases. Nobody actually pays it, but it IS a line on the Ohio tax return. Wanna make sure you get audited? Publicly state that you're not paying this tax.

Lemme guess...this was thought up by some left-coaster with NO idea of Ohio law. Whomever initiated this is going to get some people in trouble.

4. Boston tea party also was illegal.
People did it anyway and it worked out quite well (for the people that is, not for the British crown).
Which isn't to say that an Ohio tax boycott would work out well (though it might), but it does mean it wouldn't be the first time for the people to be disobedient to authority. There are times when there's very good reason to do just that.
