Helen Thomas hits it out of the park! Again!

Reduced to double talk in defending torture policy

By HELEN THOMAS

How long will the American people tolerate the shaming of their nation by the inhumane treatment of prisoners of war and the spiriting of detainees to secret prisons outside the United States?

Is it any wonder that other countries believe that America has lost its moral purpose by surrendering our well-earned reputation for human rights?

<snip>

God, I love this woman. She speaks for me.:loveya: :loveya: :loveya:

Peace.

5. From the article: "renditions"
— the secret transport of terrorist suspects from the country where they were captured "to their home country or to other countries where they can be questioned, held or brought to justice."

Rendition is a "vital tool" in combating international terrorism, she (Rice) said.

I don't get it; why is rendition a 'vital tool', and where did the US learn that from, and has it ever been used before in other wars?
And I agree, fooj; Helen rocks!

24. Confused about two statements in the article:
Sounds like Reagan rolled out the practice and Clinton gave the CIA permission to use it but who was doing it before the CIA and what part of government is now misusing it the most?

1)"Since the 1980s, the United States has increasingly turned to rendition as a judicial and extra-judicial method for dealing with foreign defendants. "

2)"The CIA was granted permission to use rendition in a presidential directive that dates to the Clinton administration, although very few uses were documented during that time. "

35. For shame!
You "respect" her with talk like this: just a little lady

She's a warrioress. An aging one, it's true, just as we are all aging daily. But don't imagine that aging necessarily or automatically diminshes her prowess. I think you owe her an apology.

22. What's the definition of a saint?
I've always thought of it as some entity that watches over you, that protects you from harm, that sees danger and alerts you to it.

I think she has it all covered! Oh, maybe I've launched into hyperbole, but can you think of a journalist who has been a watchdog to the Executive branch of the government that you'd trust as much?

23. Washingtonian Magazine just listed Washington's Top 50 Journalists
Guess who wasn't on it? :wtf:

Helen Thomas is without question (ask any steno - er- Journalist in DC) the top journalist in town. It amazes me that this idiotic magazine had the gall to include Bob Novak and Judy Miller (not journalists at all, but celebrity hacks), and omit the Dean of the Washington Press Corps.

32. She's now a columnist
She has an opinion-oriented column now, she doesn't do straight reporting anymore. That could be why she wasn't on the list.

33. That's true of most of the imbeciles on the list.
Nobody does reporting - they're all presstitutes and pundits. She at least asks hard questions and gathers hard facts to base her opinions on.

34. Yep, there are a few
About 3/4 of the list is pure shit, you're right. But there are a few bright spots, Sy Hersh and John Walcott, at least.

He was big in getting the DSM story into the media here, I think he broke it here. He's been one of the few who has reported truthfully on Iraq from the beginning.

28. Helen Thomas
is a woman of intelligence and integrity. I also adore her. She is what a journalist aspired to be when I was in school. And if we weren't as intelligent - we could still be honest. Damn few of those "i" genes in the current "Barbie & Ken' mediaworld.
