It’s no surprise to learn that Schwarzenegger is a chickenshit politician

After all, he had nothing to gain by standing up for a guy like Tookie. Liberals are never going to vote for Ah-nuhld again anyway, so political calculus demands that he throw some red meat (or black, as the case may be) to his supporters. Keeping Tookie behind bars, while not an easy choice, was the wisest thing he could have done, regardless of the man’s history. But we demand a sacrifice, and whether that sacrifice is right or wrong never really enters the equation anymore. Blood begets blood, and the state is the instrument of a lust as primitive and ancient as anything in mankind’s history. I deeply regret that in this particular case.

But they don’t call it Red America for nothing. And Schwarzenegger had nothing to gain. Nothing but his soul.

it comes as no surprise that he's pulling a move like this. But then again, it's a "damned if you do, damned if you dont" situation.
