The complicated issue of saying HAPPY HOLIDAYS: cartoon
Unless you're a complete moron, you already know why we say HAPPY HOLIDAYS. However, in the event you work for Fox News or your name is Jerry Falwell, here's a visual aid - today's Neil Lisst political cartoon.

4. Thanks. You know I'm a fan of your name!
Reader's Digest humor is engrained deeply within me, and Humor In Uniform has always been a favorite.

They're not as funny as they used to be. I'm not sure why.

38. Somewhere in my mind, I did choose it because of those old
Reader's Digest jokes. I just didn't know it till later.

2. Hey!
You forgot New Year's Day!

That's the one I've been rubbing fundy noses in, the reason it's "Happy HolidayS instead of the one their exclusive religious club is trying to claim away from anybody who doesn't belong.

3. HAPPY HOLIDAYS, HAPPY HANNAKWNZMAS, HAPPY FESTIVUS
I am making it a point to say happy holidays where ever I go this season. Had not these fundy ass wipes started bleeting about this crap, I probably would have said Merry Christmas. I find it ironic that the very largest of the right wing nut fundy churches won't even have a Christmas day service. How's that for taking Christ out of Christmas?

Well, that and the fact that my ex-husband is Muslim and my fiance is Jewish. LOL. I'm pretty multi-cultural.

Oh - Ramadan sometimes falls around the December holiday season, too, making FOUR holidays of all faiths right in a row. Ramadan was in December two years ago.

Ten years ago, it was still going on in January, because I remember it was ongoing when the Rockets played the Bulls, and Hakeem was fasting. It was a daytime, Sunday game.

7. Cool commentary
And you used a common theme: light.

Pardon the pun, but it's too bad more people don't see the "light" in the term "Happy Holidays"!

8. I wanted it to look like a neighborhood or a Holiday card.
Glad you like it. The first draft was too dark. We were going to have it be at night, and dark outside, but it lacked the light and airy feel I wanted.

We wanted to say "it's just common courtesy to say 'Happy Holidays' when many faiths are involved in our society.

the original holidays!

and the appropriate holiday greeting? "Io, Saturnalia" (Io pronounced Yo)!

it's partly where the traditions of decorating with evergreens and giving gifts comes from as well.

27. Then I guess I'm a complete moron.

I'm 43 years old, and when I was a kid we called the period from Thanksgiving through New Year's the "Holiday season" -- "Christmas season" doesn't really fit since it continues for a week after Christmas -- and said "Happy Holidays" to encompass the entire season. While I occasionally heard someone saying "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year", most folk just shortened it to "Happy Holidays".
