Robert Byrd - Why I'm Against Term Limits....
I'm watching the repeat of the Robert Byrd/Bill Frist debate today. Robert Byrd is why I am against term limits. Here we are so honored to have a man like him who truly loves the Senate and the history of the institution. This man is a living American treasure.
Bill Frist should be humbled to be speaking next to him but clearly this disrespectful liar is not. Obviously, Sen Byrd is not as quick as he once was and what does Frist do but try to rush him and speak over him.

Then I just loved how MCConnell snuck out to double team Sen Byrd. What a slimey asshole.

We need more Sen Byrd's.

1. Yes
I just think if someone says he/she won't do many term limits they should at least be honest. My congressman has said in the past he won't do more than so many terms but he is still there. He's lied about some other things too. Like saying his kids would go to only public school(s) but they go to private schools.

2. I'm against term limits for every office but POTUS
To quote Jed Bartlet "I don't like laws that say that we can't trust people. They say that we need term limits because people can't be trusted to recognize corruption. Well we have term limits, they're called elections."

I think, however, that it is necessary to have term limits for president. President is such a powerful office that having someone in there for too long can mean serious trouble for democracy.

3. Would your feelings change
if you knew Senator Byrd voted in favor of the bankruptcy screw-job? If you knew he voted in favor of the class action limits? If you knew he voted in favor of John Roberts? If you knew that the head of his campaign committee is arguing in court that coal companies shouldn't pay taxes?

I love the man for his anti-Bush stances, but he's a looooooooooong way from being a liberal.

He never said the war in Iraq was wrong. What he said was that the Congress was abdicating its authority.

I wish, in his old age, Byrd would be what America desperately needs him to be: a rallying point for liberals. Sadly, he's not.
