Murtha is kicking some serious ass, speaks in Philly 1hr after Bush

Bush defends new Iraq plan in Phila.

Police clash with onlookers; Murtha: 'I still don't see a plan'

PHILADELPHIA -- President Bush and Rep. John Murtha traded sharply different versions of the Iraq war Monday while police and two men traded punches during a brief scuffle that marred an otherwise peaceful protest outside.

Bush came to the city where America was born Monday morning to give the third in a series of speeches aimed at boosting eroding support for the war in Iraq. The nation is fighting an "enemy without conscience" and has adopted a three-pronged strategy for victory, Bush told the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia. That strategy includes providing economic assistance, defeating the insurgency, and training Iraqi soldiers to protect their own country.

About an hour after Bush finished speaking, Murtha, D-Pa., held a press conference in a hotel a few blocks away, saying he made a mistake in voting for the war.

Bush's strategy is based on little more than rhetoric and the hope that things will turn out right, said Murtha, a longtime supporter of the military who's become a prominent congressional critic of the Iraq conflict. "I still don't see a plan that will prevail."

Monday's was the first protest at Bush's three speeches where police clashed with anti-war demonstrators. There were no similar confrontations at his recent speeches at the U.S. Naval Academy and the Council on Foreign Relations.

This is what democrats need to do. Everytime Bush ventures out to make a speech, we should have a democrat like Murtha lined up to speak soon after somewhere in that same location. Now when the papers write about Bush's speech they'll have to mention that nearby and soon after a democrat spoke out against him. Great planning for Murtha - maybe he's looking to run for president?

1. The sad thing is that Bush can give meaningless speeches ...
and his poll numbers will increase.

Show how much some people think. Nothing has changed for the better, yet more will support him.

3. Face it people do want to believe the president.
Look at vietnam. Took years to get to Congress and have them finally pull the money and the president to do the same. No one wants to say they are wrong.

8. Actually, his numbers often go down after major speeches.
This actually happened after a State of the Union speech, and then there is the Social Security tour...

2. I think Murtha is here to stay.
The man is unrelenting and shows no mercy.

Dear Dem leaders, Mimic Murtha! Follow his lead or lose all relevance. 60% of Americans can't be wrong.

And even if they were, they'll still kick you all to the curb if you don't start getting your stuff together. Murtha can show you worry-warts and Bush butt-kissers the way.

recommended.

10. It's more what Murtha needs to do.
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 10:13 AM by Jim__
He has more credibility on this issue than any other dem and, right now, the press will cover him whenever he gives an anti-war speech.

The big problem for the dems on this is that they are divided on the issue.
