phone jamming (election crime) case goes to jury
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 08:19 AM by welshTerrier2
what could be more fundamental than American citizens trying to get other American citizens to participate in the democratic process on election day??

cheating in an election should be a felony ... interfering with get out the vote efforts should be viewed as treason ... that's exactly what James Tobin, bush's 2002 campaign chairman for New England is accused of doing ...

Tobin didn't come up with this hair-brained scheme all by himself ... two others have already been convicted and are serving jail terms ... but how long were their sentences for these heinous crimes?? one got 7 months; the other got 5 ... talk about a slap on the wrist ...

A jury on Monday began deliberations in the case of a former national Republican Party official accused of orchestrating an election day phone-jamming plot against New Hampshire Democrats.

Earlier in the day, lawyers concluded their arguments in the case of James Tobin, President Bush's former New England campaign chairman. Deliberations were to continue Tuesday.

Tobin, 45, is charged with one count of interfering with voters rights and several counts of telephone harassment. If convicted, he faces a maximum 17-year prison sentence and a $750,000 fine.

For nearly two hours on Election Day 2002, hundreds of hang-up calls overwhelmed Democratic get-out-the-vote phone banks and a ride-to-the-polls line run by Manchester's firefighters union. <skip>
