Bush's job approval rating bounces up a few points (to 42%)

By Susan Page, USA TODAY

WASHINGTON <snip>Democratic pollster Doug Schoen sees no signs of a sustained turnaround, however. "While this represents a slight change, it doesn't change the underlying dynamic, which suggests a president who has lost the confidence of the American people," he says.
Bush's standing remains lower than that of any president in his second term since World War II except Richard Nixon.
Even so, Bush's political situation seems to have stabilized after a perilous autumn. Three other national polls released in the past three weeks put his rating on the rise to 41% or 42%. A Gallup Poll taken Dec. 5-8 measured it at 43%.
In the USA TODAY survey, Bush's rating by independents jumped by 10 points, compared with a month earlier, to 38% from 28%.
• Those opposed to Bush hold more intense views than his supporters. In the survey, 43% strongly disapproved of his performance; 22% strongly approved.<snip>

1. "bounce" is the right word.
After hitting the cellar floor, one had to expect a slight rebound. Fux and the corporate media and the conservative churches will hoodwink enough people to prevent it from sinking lower.

2. And no wonder
With the incredible public-relations campaign they've been waging. Turn on the TV and all you hear about is how great the economy is, how happy Iraqis are, and how we're bringing freedom and democracy to the whole planet:puke:

3. Bubbles don't unpop.
The opposed are committed, the supports are lukewarm. That's bad news for him. And the right track/wrong track numbers are still awful.
