Gallup Wallops Bush

Washington, DC - Today's CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll has some more bad
news for President Bush: 58 percent of Americans "said they do not
believe President Bush has a plan that will achieve victory in Iraq."
This same poll found only 42 percent of Americans approve of Bush's
overall performance as President.

This new data follows last week's New York Times/CBS News Poll which
found that 52 percent of Americans believe that "the Bush administration
intentionally misled the public when its officials made the case for
war."

While most Americans don't think President Bush has a plan for Iraq and
misled the public prior to the war, he is also beginning to be a drag on
Republicans up for re-election in 2006. According to today's Quinnipiac
poll, 60 percent of Pennsylvanians think Bush's support hurts Republican
Senator Rick Santorum's re-election chances. Santorum now trails his
Democratic challenger, Pennsylvania State Treasurer Bob Casey, 50
percent to 38 percent.

"Poll numbers continue to show that President Bush's decision to rely
on a pollster's rhetoric in a series of campaign-style events is not
enough not hide his failed leadership," said Democratic National
Committee Communications Director Karen Finney. "It is astonishing that
the White House is celebrating a 40 percent approval rating, a paltry
rating which only proves that President Bush's credibility will continue
to suffer as long as he fails to level with the American people about
Iraq. It looks like President Bush's coattails are hurting rather than
helping Republicans up for re-election in 2006."

2. I certainly hope so--
but I'm worried that there may be a lot of multiple voting or a lot of tipped voting from people who come from a particular interest group that may be getting in the way of the people who voted for the Chimp before and think they have to continue with him and his bunch of thug-losers.

5. Democrats should target the people Bush has hurt the most
The most effective thing I think Democrats can do with Bush's poll numbers right now is to show people who have been harmed by the Republicans' corruption how this affects them in their personal lives--people who don't get into politics may not always make that connection. For example, one could do a campaign targeting the working poor showing how Bush's connection to the corporate elites in this country has led to massive numbers of good paying jobs being off shored, or how his recent proposal regarding illegal immigrants (giving them green cards so they can stay in the country) is a ploy to supply his rich cronies with cheap labor. This winter, a lot of people (including some middle class people) are going to have a hard time keeping the heat on in their homes--this is another good group to target with this line of thinking. These are just a few examples, of course. People need to be able to relate what is going on in Washington to their own lives--and that is probably the most powerful weapon we have against the Republican Right.

3. I find this really funny!
I heard Santorun talking to some reporters on TV today. They stopped him on his way out of the WH after a meeting with Shrub. He was criticizing the Dems for hurting the troops again, and said they really needed to support the Pres!

A few hours later, I heard, on the same chanel, Santorum might not want Shrub to campaign for him since it seems to hurt more than it helps!

I'm so happy that Casey is leading. It's such a long time until November, I have my fingers crossed that the gap between Casey and Samtorum only widens...A LOT!
