question about "free speech zones"...

on a board my so frequents, they are trying to convince a newbie that Clinton and Gore initiated the free speech zone. What say you DU?

1. Clinton and Gore didn't start them.

They were a product of the courts during the 90s which were designed to keep protesters, often abortion protesters, a reasonable distance away from people trying to exercise their various rights.

2. IIRC, one requirement of a non-infringing Free Speech Zone

was that the speech could still be seen or heard by its intended audience.
