Freeps having a hissy fit over Bush's Acceptance of Ban on Torture
I predicted this in another thread, but they are really going ballistic over there. I can only hope their disgust is typical of all the idiot Repubs that still support the Chimp.

A sampling for your amusement:

"The Al Qaeda Bill of Rights"

"HOW SOON 9/11 IS FORGOTTEN!! THESE MORON POLITICIANS STILL DON'T GET IT. It started with the Miranda decision and we've gone full circle. This is comparable when the Sen. Church Amendment hamstrung the CIA years back, which culminated in lousy intelligence."

"Note to Bush: There's a nifty little tool given you by the framers of the Constitution. It was put in there as a check on the power of the legislature. It was intended to be used.
It's called a VETO! Please look into it, would ya'?"

"Bush is a BIG dissapointment. Huge."

"First, stomp the First Amendment. Now, coddle terrorists.
Bush Jr. sure likes to roll over for McCain, doesn't he? Makes you wonder what McCain has on him."

"Bush should not have caved on this...bad mistake."

"Is there any reason WHY this had to be addressed TODAY? We can't relish in our accomplishments in Iraq for one freeking day without having to cowtow to the dang left?"

And my personal favorite:

"Yeah but I want a real President. 3 more years of Mr. Softie and I will go insane. We have the Presidency now and both houses. Whats that done for me? Donut hole."

2. Oooh, if only he'd veto it.
It would be so very, very sweet to see Congress (both houses of which are controlled by his own party) override it. :D

What did you THINK you were going to get out of a GOP lock on power? Health Care? A better job? Tax relief (if middle or lower class)?

5. I like the "Note to bush:" one
Note to Freeper: There's a nifty tool that the Constitution gives Congress called "override" to put a check on the power of the president. Please look into it.

8. It's chilling to think any American would want to torture people.
I can't even believe that arrogant megalomaniac was so idiotic as to openly seek a torture licence for the CIA. If that is anything other than an admission that they've already been torturing people as a matter of policy, what is it?

10. Unfortunately, residing in the USA does not guarantee progressive...
thinking. The impulse of humans to murder, torture, punish, rape, extort and bully knows no borders. As long as we keep believing that "Americans" are somehow better than those who reside in other parts of the world we are doomed to be deluded fools.

19. I kinda doubt this has anything to do with the political spectrum
I think it's more along the lines of narcissism, a psychopathic personality disorder. A total lack empathy is one of the characteristics, and that's exactly what a torturer would need. Also, those who really do lack empathy often will want to hide their cold natures behind a sympathetic facade, a characature of caring.

25. Not really
I think it is just simplistic, blind patriotism. I used to have this quote in my signatuire on other forums I visit;

"My country, right or wrong," is a thing that no patriot would think of
saying except in a desperate case. It is like saying, "My mother,
drunk or sober."
-- G. K. Chesterton

and more than the Che Guevara avatars or the Kerry quotes and such, this one raised the ire of right-wingers the most. They cannot conceptualize the idea of patriotic dissent...unless CLinton is in office, of course...

9. Joke: Field manual rewritten. Torture defined by field manual now.
A recent change to the field manual circumvents McCain's complaint and makes agreeing to his protocols a public relations win for Republicans.

Republicans not only haven't changed their stance on torture, but they will claim more than ever that they don't torture based on the new definitions based on the new law and the field manual protocols.

Kyrgyzstan? Those countries seem to maintain many of the freeper values. Then they will have their precious torture and maiming and we can have our country back from these mouth breathers.

that is the kind of simplistic thinking freepers are known for - it's like they've never read a history book

...they've wanted these past 5 years. Because if they don't get what they want, just remember, 9/11,9/11,9/11,9/11,9/11,9/11,9/11,.....

16. The real point is this: the torture will continue.
The President is simply willing to go beyond the pale of the law now, because he has consolidated complete control of the federal government. He'll doff the cap to McCain, and continue to deny everything past and present, and when, in just a matter of weeks, it becomes apparent that nothing at all has changed, he will lie, and withold information, claiming executive privilege, and begin the long process of cover-up and investigation tampering.

He's untouchable now. That's the point of this regal gesture.

17. Like the poster The Judged mentioned above...
They've changed the Field Manual, adding 10 pages of classified info.

According to the New York Times Wednesday:

"...The addendum provides dozens of examples and goes into exacting detail on what procedures may or may not be used, and in what circumstances. Army interrogators have never had a set of such specific guidelines that would help teach them how to walk right up to the line between legal and illegal interrogations."

I wish it was 2008. How did the US ever get to this point?

I've been watching their kind grow in numbers for over ten years in usenet.

How many of them are thinking of switching to the Aryan Nations, I mean of those who aren't already members?
