Pelosi backing down on war
Pelosi Hails Democrats' Diverse War Stances

By Dan Balz
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, December 16, 2005; A23

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said yesterday that Democrats should not seek a unified position on an exit strategy in Iraq, calling the war a matter of individual conscience and saying differing positions within the caucus are a source of strength for the party.

15. Further translation:
Pelosi can't control corporate sponsored, war-profiteering dems.
We MUST weed them out or continue to lose.

16. And until we can weed them out, we need to demand accountability.
As someone said elsewhere on this thread, constituents of the hardliner Dems really need to pressure their Reps.

4. She's right
Bush and the Republican congress run the country. It is not up to Democrats to provide a solution to the Iraq mess.

17. Exactly.
Those fuckers got us into this, and it is not the Dems' responsibility to get us out. After all, aren't they the party of "personal responsibility"?

The fact that Dems HAVE such different war stances is just a sign that they think more about their positions than their Pube counterparts. We should be glad that our elected representatives can think for themselves.

5. ..this is bad for a leader of a party in Congress to admit, she has no

..leverage or party discipline to get everyone on the same side of a important issue like this.

its no wonder the Republicans can frame the democrats as a bunch of vasilating leaderless gutless bunch of whiners..cause its partly true.

And as for her leadership abilities (as well as Democratic unity), check out this rpt from yesterday:

Democratic discipline delaying top Bush administration priorities
By James KuhnhennKnight Ridder Newspapers

WASHINGTON - With time running out for Congress this year, Democrats are displaying rare unity and influencing the legislative agenda in ways that were unimaginable during President Bush's first term.

Their cohesion, together with rebellion from some moderate and maverick Republicans, was evident Wednesday as lawmakers continued to frustrate Bush's agenda on anti-terrorism legislation, foreign-detainee policies and oil drilling in Alaska's wildlife refuge.
....
"It's the first time I can recall in years that they've been so united," Rep. Michael Castle, R-Del., a leader of moderate House Republicans, said of the Democrats.

13. Maybe so, but if the war is the biggest issue...
...what good is discipline on the small stuff?

9. I call bullshit...
...the headline of the article is "Pelosi Hails Democrats' Diverse War Stances"...she didn't back down on her position at all.

And as for not being able to maintain unity, are you a constituent in one of the holdouts congressional districts? Let them know you oppose the war, and you will support them if they take a stand.

12. Agreed. She didn't back down, and if there's any resistance, it's OUR...
...duty to make sure our Reps truly represent us.

Thank you w13rd0.
