Bayh, others say today’s video games go too far

There is a growing problem with children getting their hands on violent and sexually suggestive video games without their parents’ knowledge, Sen. Evan Bayh said Friday, and he intends to do something about it.

During a morning press conference at the Clark Regional Airport in Sellersburg, Bayh, D-Ind., said in January he will introduce legislation in the Senate that will force stores that sell and rent video games to abide by what are now voluntary ratings from the Entertainment Software Rating Board.

The ratings are similar to those seen on movies and are intended to help parents determine whether a specific video game is appropriate for their child.

“It makes mandatory the system that is currently voluntary,” said Bayh, adding that the law could include a $1,000 fine for stores that violate it.<snip>

3. I'm a gamer, and I have no problem with it
Don't know how much good it will do, though. Everyone has a friend with an older brother or parents who don't care. I know that as a kid, I could still generally see R-rated movies or thumb through my friends' dads' Penthouses.
