Discuss Patriot Act in Senate from CSpan2 here
Edited on Fri Dec-16-05 12:29 PM by Don1
Discuss what is going on here.

Here is what happened earlier:
GOP Senator Kyl is now talking about how 44 Democrats in the House supported reauthorizing Patriot Act. He says that Democratic Senators should also not be so "partisan." So there you go. The fact that the DiNOs in the House supported the Patriot Act earlier in the week is killing our civil rights in more ways.

Let's hope that Feingold and even Sununu filibuster. Sununu might. He's from NH and they have a motto there: "Live Free or Die."

Let's see what happens.

1. Feingold already has enough support for a filibuster.
He has at least 4 republicans on his side too. Sununu, Craig, Murkowski, and I think Hagel has now come over. That means Bush has to get 9 Democrats to come over to his side and vote for cloture. And that's not going to happen. He might get Joe Traitorman (D-CT) and maybe Ben Nelson or Joe Biden, but I can't see him getting much more than that.

The NRA is not taking a position with this issue, which leaves the door open for the gun toting conservatives to oppose this measure at their will. I wouldn't be surprised if more Republicans come over, too.

19. nelson never votes with Democrats
and I mean never. I scored Senator scores for progressivity, and he scored a "0". 9 republicans score better than he does. If Nelson isn't a neocon, then he might as well be because I don't see a difference in his voting. Even Leiberman voted with Democrats 30% of the time.

sorry...I am at a professional conference, so I was away from the comp for many hours.

I posted the whole thing on dailykos (after posting it originally here).

The methodology is included, as well. I think it is much better than ADA's method, which I find.....unsatisfying (does anyone believe that Leiberman, who votes 30% with us, has a 77% rating and Feinstein is more of a progressive than Boxer?)

read halfway down the page for my full list and the methodology. I didn't know if th KOS people would be interested in it, so I waited for someone to ask.

3. Lieberman voted no on cloture...how refreshing.
Any Senator reading the NYT headlines about Bush Inc.
spying on us should have reservations about the
Patriot Act.

10. After NYT headlines this morning, all Senators should have reservation
They should be demanding answers from this administration,
not voting on permanancy of the Patriot act

12. Lincoln, another DLC'er, said No.
Things are looking good.

Enough Republicans seemed to have defected such that DiNOs do not have the numbers to get to 60.

17. Kyl is second only to Frist in the revulsion factor when he speaks.
And he is one of my Senators, for now.

To help the campaign to defeat him next year:
