It was heartening, if a long time in coming, to hear GOP'ers speaking out
on issues that reflect on individual integrity, ie the Patriot Act, as well as the spying just now being reported in the news.

Senators Sununu and Craig spoke eloquently to oppose invoking cloture.

Arlen Specter condemned strongly the illegal spying by the administration just reported in the NY Times.

I vaguely recall being asked to urge my Senator to elect Specter rather than a neocon as chair of the Judiciary Committee. Which I did, knowing Specter was a moderate.

Thank you Sununu, Craig, Specter, and the NY Times, and all Democrats voting against cloture!!

1. Ex-Congressman...
...Bob Barr spoke forcefully against re-authorization as well. At least some are intellectually consistent.

2. Some of them remember what
the real Conservatives stood for, which included the right to privacy.

5. There is common ground between liberals and old style conservatives in
some areas and this is one!

3. Maybe yesterday's anti-torture vote and the turn around on funding
levees in New Orleans are a sign that the Thugs have had it with the Duck. Well election 2006 is less than a year away. The duck was bad enough but now he's an albatros.

8. Funny, Feinstein just used "heartened" also to describe how she
felt about Specter's denunciation of the secret spying by *.

And that they will be holding hearings!!!
