CNN: "Failure to break a filibuster on the Patriot Act a blow to Frist"

The failure to break a filibuster on the Patriot Act was a blow to Majority Leader Bill Frist.

Frist, R-Tennessee, changed his vote at the last moment after seeing the critics would win. He decided to vote with the prevailing side so he could call for a new vote at any time. He immediately objected to an offer of a short term extension from Democrats, saying the House won't approve it and the president won't sign it.

"We have more to fear from terrorism than we do from this Patriot Act," Frist warned.

12. This is a sea change!
Think of it, the dems say we have more work to do on this, lets give it a short term extension so we can discuss it some more before it lapses, and Frist and the R's say in essence we would rather have this vital national security legislation go away than agree with Democrats.

Why are Republicans so soft on national security? Why do they hate America?

14. That would be the "Home of the Brave" part, Bill.
We have more to fear from terrorism than we do from this Patriot Act," Frist warned."

To me, "Home of the Brave" means that we understand that by protecting every persons rights and freedoms, that some criminals may take advantage of this and do harm. We see that being brave in the face if this risk is worthwhile, for the precious gift of Liberty.

Only cowards tremble in the face of bullies, go weak kneed and surrender their sacred rights for the false illusion of momentary security.

The Patriot Act is an Act of Cowardice. It is a slap in Uncle Sams face. It is a white flag of surrender to those who would bring terror to every man, woman and child of this nation. It is a white flag, waved by fools who fancy themselves patriots, yet are anything but.
