Who made that phone call? No way is that legal to have private websites intruded upon by government.

Again, the federal gov't could have easily obtained a warrant to monitor (hell they probably already give themselves that authority anyway) such a site for the simple fact it was military families that could have obtained info from their loved ones that they perceived was threatening to US interests, but to DEMAND they take over a private website and/or shut it down completely is censorship authority that they simply don't have.

I suppose THIS is what the president and vp mean when they claim it is detrimental to our troops? What a crock. FAMILIES of troops need support from each other and who gives a crap what their political beliefs are!

As far as the other story goes... I, at least, have been expecting to hear it for a while. Sadly, the power grab isn't just on, it's here to stay for a long time with 911 as an excuse. I'm just trying to figure out if they are going to invent different armbands for the different types of "disenters"... green for environmentalists, blue for Democrats, white for Liberals, orange for Independants...you get the picture. And while they are at it, they can invent a "dissenter scale", just like the terroist threat scale.

I can't seem to get into the Democrats.com thread, and I am beginning to understand what a "lockdown" is, I am MomRobin from the story you are commenting on. I want to say I appreciate your comments and ideas. Let me tell you I have gone to one of my Senators, and the ACLU.
This is prior to the breaking news of Domestic Spying. I have contacted MFSO, and am waiting for information from them, yet it seems the blogs have picked up our story and now we are on about 4 sites, amazing, and thank you!
I believe the story needs to get out so there a hope that this will not happen to other families. I also believe it was wrong, very wrong, and I still feel obligated to the families from my website. There are five other parents willing to speak out about this if we are given a chance.

I don't know if you are a Dem or not, but I wish you the best on this matter, and on your son's return home. Our thoughts are constantly with you and parents of the other doing Mr. Bush's dirty work.

I wish I HAD some advice for you, but I knew down deep as soon as they admitted to spying on US citizens, it wouldn't be confined to "terror suspects", but would soon be applied to people like yourself. This situation is the ideal setup for a "slippery slope", even when run by well-meaning people, and especially in the hands of malevolent people like the * admin.

I was in the last election. I spoke at the local "Women for Kerry" in our town. I had a letter I wrote published by Michael Moore, I wrote it one night out of fear and worry, and didn't name names or anything, just a mom expressing her heart. He put it in his boo, "Will They Ever Trust Us Again", and there is actually an audio of it on his web site. Right now I just don't know, just a person watching what is happening to our country.
I appreciate your thoughts, there really isn't any advice, as it is what it is, and it was wrong, funny I actually received an award from the Army for site, Ironic.

...I don't know where you live but ask around for someone who does Constitutional work. One place to look would be at law schools nearby, find out who the teachers/Profs in the Constitutional Law program are and give them a call--ask for recommendations on attorneys who might be interested in this case.

Another bit of advice: Make CD or DVD copies of your computers' hard drives, SEVERAL copies. Put one in a safe deposit box at a bank. Give one to a trusted friend. Give one to your attorney. Be sure that all correspondence relating to this matter is on the CD. From now on, document EVERYTHING connected with this matter, even if it's just notes like "received phone call from X today (date) at (time) to discuss (matter.) Make a timeline of all the events connected with this harrassment as best you can remember them, put it on the CD and in hard copy, have multiple copies available. Keep records. Make notes. Get things in writing. When you talk to anyone about this, get their full name, rank, ID, service branch, assignment, etc. I can't put it strongly enough: KEEP RECORDS AND DOCUMENT EVERYTHING.

Again: Multiple copies. Park them around.

Protect yourself and your family. My Dad was a Marine and I have deep respect for those who make the sincere commitment to serve their country, BUT I'm well aware that today's military is not the military my Dad served in... there are some very nasty, creepy, career f***-ups in key places these days, looking for whatever will get them up the ladder and under the eyes of those who can grease the skids for their next promotion, better assignment, etc. It's a jungle. I can't say it too many times: PROTECT YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY!

The First Amendment is number one with a bullet. IMHO for a uniformed serviceperson sworn to uphold the Constitution to stoop to the level of abrogating the free speech rights of anyone is tantamount to treason. It is at the least a violation of the oath of service.
