Lieberman just became a Democrat
He gave an impassioned speech against the drilling in Alaska.

1. He supports the Iraq occupation wholeheartedly
Why should he care about the piddling amount of oil in Alaska?

10. Because he is a democrat and does care about democratic ideals.
He just is "somewhere else" when it comes to Israel. That is who he is. And we should not expect all Dems to be cookie cutouts of each other. That would make them brownshirts!

2. um...
One speech on drilling during an illegal invasion and a constitutional crisis as the President declares himself king does not a democrat make.

4. He Always Has Been A Democrat
except for his annoying hawkish tendencies, he really is moderate.

I wish he'd stop kissing Dubya's butt, though

5. Ummm....he's been a Democrat.
Next time check his record on issues like abortion, civil rights, education, etc. He's one of the most liberal Senators on those issues.

6. reminds me of the old joke about the rabbi living next to the priest
and grilling steak every Friday night...

Punch line: You were born a cow. You were raised a cow. Now you're a fish.

Lieberman just became a Democrat?

7. Lieberman votes/agrees with the party line on many issues
In particular, he's always been a strong advocate of environmental protection and reproductive rights.

Being a democrat does not hinge on just one issue does it?

17. Excuse me but get a damn clue
Lieberman has one of the best records not only with Environment issues (Consistantly 100% with the League of Conservation Voters) but also stellar voting records when it comes to choice, social issue, human rights, free speech etc etc etc

No, there are some major issues that we (meaning me and 99% of DU) do not agree with Joe Lieberman on, but believe me, he's a democrat - this wasn't a fluke today.

18. I am from CT
Although he has disappointed me with some of the things he has done it amazes me how he is painted as a right wing neocon! Don't people check voting records? More conservative senators are better liked around here than Lieberman. He is a Conservative when it comes to defense but his voting record on social issues is consistently Liberal. Yet he is supposedly a right wing tool.

19. Here's another pet peeve of mine
HE'S NOT MY GOSH DARN SENATOR!!

I mean, he's Connecticut's senator and if they don't like how he votes they'll get a primary candidate to run against him and throw the guy out.

My mentality for all democrats voting for 'questionable' candidates in 2006 general election - think of your vote as supporting Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer, John Kerry, Ed Kennedy, Russ Feingold and the other great democrats who have shown us they're willing to fight for what we believe in. They'll have a much easier time doing it if they're in the majority.

16. Sweetie, he's always been a democrat
he just doesn't see eye to eye with us on some issues.

Check in GDP - there's a really great thread about how Lieberman's voting record stands up against McCains & Collins. You'd be shocked at just how democrat he is
