Bush Country December 2005:

The electoral vote would be 485-53.

What a difference a year makes...

Proud to be from New England right about now:
34 New Hampshire Kerry 37% 60% -23% NH
43 Connecticut Kerry 34% 64% -30% CT
43 Maine Kerry 34% 64% -30% ME
47 Vermont Kerry 30% 67% -37% VT
49 Massachusetts Kerry 28% 68% -40% MA
50 Rhode Island Kerry 25% 73% -48% RI

Although New Hampshire could do a lot better for us :)
New England's average is 31% approve, 66% disapprove.

1. What a coincidence
It almost look like the polls right before the election last year. It almost look like the results of the exit polling on election day.

5. Technically it is a tie
49%-49%. But I'm a baseball fan and the tie goes to the runner (or, in this case, the incumbent :P )

10. But, but, but
we went blue. What in the world has happened that was positive for this state to make it turn back? Arghhhh, I can't stand it!

On, you know, what the matter is with Kansas, or something like that.

6. Are my eyes deceiving me? Texas blue?
We'll see if we can pull it off next year for starters. I'd like nothing better than to boot KBH and JC out on their asses (I can dream, can't I?).

Slowly turning red again, though.

9. Thanks.
I don't follow stats that closely unless it's an election year. This would explain the disappearance of the Bush/Cheney bumperstickers in my area. :hi:

17. Not to be a pain, but these are, of course, only approval numbers -
there's no way the Electoral map would look like this if there was an election today. The Democrats would win it, no doubt in my mind, but there are a lot of these states that would vote Republican whether they disapproved of Bush's job performance or not, as happened in a couple of close states in 2004.

Places like the Carolinas, Mississippi, the Dakotas, Oklahoma, Texas, Indiana, Kentucky, probably West Virginia.

18. Remember the Magic (Black or perhaps Red Magic)
Remember too that many states would inexplicably, as if by magic, elect the Republican--even if the polls predict a Democratic win and in spite of early evening vote counts at polling stations showing a clear majority favoring the Democrats by a landslide. After all, we know that the Republicans all wait until very late in the day to suddenly cast their votes without even appearing at the voting booth. Amazingly effective voting strategy :sarcasm:.

To wit, though, we still haven't remedied the problem of the Electronic Voting Machines (Magical Electronic Republican Made Electronic Voting Black Boxes).

21. Its not magic and its not Diebold.
I know people who, even though they are not happy with a Republican's performance, will still vote for them simply because they are Republican. I know I have family members who were talking voting for Kerry who voted Bush when it got down to it.
When it came time to make that choice, they just couldn't make themselves vote for a Democrat.

22. I don't want to rain on the parade, but...
The current approval ratings don't mean all those states that are now "blue" would have gone for Kerry.

That said, it's wonderful to see Bush in negatvie approval in such a majority of states.

23. Montana would not...
At least not for a long time, elect a democrat. We just elected a dem Govenor and that was because the previous rep had an approval rating of like 20%.

I think the state went to Bush with 70% of the vote, like a lot of the west.

26. My understanding, your new Dem governor has very high approval
rating and this is very good sign. If he do real well, it might help change people's mind about voting for Dem's!
