Hole in Bush excuse:Information obtained illegally can't be used in court
Okay, so they want us to believe that they have to pursue illegal wiretaps in order to catch the terrrrist evildoers. However, any information they obtain in these illegal wiretaps cannot be used in court because it was obtained illegally.

How is that helping the war on terrorism? They are creating a situation where if they do catch a terrorist, he/she will get off on a technicality.

What am I missing?

They can just ship the "terrorist" off to Guantanamo and forget about him. Hell, they've already trashed the constitution in the way they apprehended him, what do they care about giving him a fair trial?

8. Gitmo, hell--they've moved the venue!!!!
Gitmo was too much of a focus, far better to ship them off to dungeons far, far away from the eyes of the curious.

9. Padilla almost 4 yrs in jail, no charges
hundreds of others in NY-NJ area, held for months without charges.
perhaps thousands.

This has become a police state, and unless we stop it now, it will only get worse.

They hate us for our freedoms. Indeed.

2. I fear
that Bushco will use the information to grab people and detain them indefinately without benefit of counsel or the writ of habeas corpus. This is a real danger and one of the many reasons why Bush and his cabal should be impeached and drummed out of office.

3. Maybe they have no intention of using their findings in court.
Maybe their objective is entirely extralegal, such as using wiretap information to intimidate and control their targets.

6. They Don't Go To Trial
Edited on Sat Dec-24-05 11:20 AM by iamjoy
Don't you get it?
The provisions of the Patriot Act (which Dubya is so hot to renew) mean some one can be held without access to legal counsel or an attorney. So, Dubya overhears a conversation in which some one says "Dubya sucks and I hope he gets what he deserves.*" That person is then arrested and held indefinately. Or, faces a military tribunal with much laxer standards of evidence.

Or am I missing something?

* I will go on record saying I personally think Dubya deserves a long life and reasonably good physical health. I want him to live long enough to see the consequences of his actions.

7. They do not want to take their POLITICAL OPPONENTS to court.
They do not even want to take "Terrorists" to court. They want to send them directly to GITMO

10. What if a reporter asked him this question?
what would be his explanation?

Maybe now is a good time to talk about their military tribunals as well.
