SACRAMENTO (AP) -- Raising money for Rep. John Doolittle's political campaigns has generated more than $136,000 in commissions for the congressman's wife over the past three years, a newspaper reported Saturday.
The arrangement between the Roseville Republican and Julie Doolittle's company, Sierra Dominion Financial Solutions, is not illegal, but it has sparked an ethics complaint from an activist group, according to a report in The Sacramento Bee.
.......
A group calling itself Californians for a Cleaner Congress, funded by labor and Democratic-leaning groups but officially nonpartisan, issued an open letter to Doolittle criticizing his fundraising activities and raising question about his wife's commissions.
San Diego attorney Stanley Zubel, leader of the group, said that unless it could be proved that Julie Doolittle has a background in raising money professionally, "then what this really is is nepotism that is basically enriching the family, which means the congressman is personally benefiting from people who contribute to his campaigns."
