Arizona newspaper discovers the world of "freeping & DU'ing"
This is too funny.. http://eliteleague.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/lol!.gif

I remember the night someone here pointed out a poll at the Sierra Vista Herald and mentioned how it HAD to have been freeped by the warped results it had.

Looks like the editor at that paper decided to look a little closer into just how his poll was being manipulated.

Remember now.. we were just sent over there to "un-freep" the damage the Freepers had done.

The paper evidently went over to Free Republic to complain about what they were doing, and in typical "freeper fashion", they were immediately banned. Damn they are nasty!

....."When an editor posted a comment on FreeRepublic.com to expose and criticize that behavior, the comment was soon stricken from the site. The editor’s privilege of posting further comments was also revoked."

The article goes on to say that a Freeper then narked on DU for trying to un-freep the poll.

....."Your poll has been posted on the radically Liberal Web site, Democratic Underground, with instructions to skew it.

You have to read this guy's article.. Sounds like he visited both sites to figure out what the deal was with his poll..

I don't remember who it was who sent us over there to "un-freep" the poll, but it didn't work.. According to the article, the freepers snuck back later while we were sleeping and freeped it again.. TOO FUNNY!

7. Just like MSM, you have to take the internet with a grain of salt.
It's sad that truth has become so subjective and facts are distorted beyond proportions. True believers on both sides will collide, but I believe we (DU) have the facts and objectivity on our side.

20. Some?
Moderates?

Well, yeah, but I'd argue we've grown much more conservative than we used to be (yes, the mods may disagree, but I don't think I'm wrong).

I mean, I see apologia for rightwing views posted here far more than would be expected of a "radically liberal" website.

13. I have lots of Democratic friends in Arizona...
I'm sure you guys are right that the "majority" votes (or did vote) Republican.. (who knows what they'll do in '06 or '08 - give us some credit, Bush is screwing up royally and I think he'll ultimately change the way people vote within a year.

Diebold is being investigated, sued, tossed out of major counties and states.. and you have to remember ---

We haven't even started on the Rove Investigation, the CIA Leak, the Whitehouse Spying, and the list goes on and on.. And despite the media trying to make the Iraq elections as going off so perfect, why are so many of our troops still dying? http://icasualties.org/oif/

But I know plenty of good-hearted Democrats in the land of "Ditat Deus" --- Plenty of wonderful Arizona Dems ~ ~ And I could sure use some awesome Mexican food from Arizona about now!! :p

18. checking in....
you know the only part of arizona that votes republican, like any state is the relatively unpopulated areas, with the exception of mericopa county (Phoenix area) that's because of chandler, scottsdale (extremely rich cities) and the very large Mormon population. but that won't stay the same for long, the more people move here from other states the bluer we get.

Attorney General Goddard.

The great liberal Udall family is from AZ.

And former Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt.

Sierra Vista is a tiny town in the Southeastern part of AZ. Near Tombstone etc.

Not far from Bisbee, which last I knew was like an artist colony.

Tucson is liberal.

It has been a standing joke since I moved here at least, that if you've lived here for 5 or more years you're an AZ native. So a high percentage of the population originated elsewhere.

BullSHIT! ALL we do here on DU is to bring attention of specific polls, so that our members can vote.

Although I've seen perhaps ONE or TWO DUers post that they've voted and revoted on certain polls in the 3 1/2 years I've been here, generally, "DUing a poll" does NOT mean we cheat. FR, on the other hand, takes PRIDE in cheating, including posting instructions on how to delete cookies, etc.

15. Unknown practices
When DUers go to a poll I think far less cheating is used(although it must be some are fighting fire with fire). I think Free Republic not only has a longer tradition and determined fraud tactics but that it might also mask an organized fraud effort by the GOP or others to effect Internet polls by and large.

It does seem, despite the touted superiority in Free Republic membership, that the sheer numbers of single DU poll voters often swamps their efforts which often languish waiting for organizational direction from above. The more the times swell the active readership and participation(at times of RW debacles or national elections for example) the more DU wins against the supposed number superiority and top down herding of FR.

Of course, no one has done much of a study of this murky war. It just seems like this to me, IMHO.

17. I'm inclined to agree...
that DUers check out a poll, vote if it's of interest and go on their merry way. I rarely note publicly when I vote on one.

As to the worthlessness of online polls, I vote on issues so that our voices are heard/recorded. Why hand the public forum over to the neocons/morans/unschooled? Why stifle public dissent? It's also possible that when some people see that their 'opinion' isn't that of a majority, they might rethink the issue.

16. The preoccupation around here (and the other place) with these...
Edited on Sun Dec-25-05 09:34 AM by ToeBot
online polls is more than a bit silly. They have no value, aside from generating higher 'hit' counts. The notion of 'DUing' & 'Freeping' plays right into that. It amounts to a pissing contest. I guess if it keeps you entertained, by all means, go for it - it's not like anyone is getting hurt, or helped (except maybe some un-inventive webmaster trying to justify his salary)

19. Freeping
I've never seen anyone on this site teach people how to vote more than once. Who are these women calling the paper to inform them of voting on either side?

21. Funny, yes, but this article also illustrated how stupid this procedure is
It made DU look just as much as a loony bin as Freep. A local magazine's webpoll doesn't really matter squat, and DU should take the high ground in these kind of stupid site-wars. But, I know that's not likely to happen, and I have been known to vote in online polls myself on occasion. ;)

Dueling banjos (websites)! Gotta love it!

By the way, I have NEVER cheated in an online poll. I vote once and leave. I am prouder of that than Diverteach of "freeping" 30 times.

Edited on Sun Dec-25-05 11:52 PM by Spiffarino
...and are worthless. However, as long as Freepers use them to push their memes to the general population, it's incumbent on us to continue to muck them up. Not only that, it's a joy and a pleasure to turn their efforts into a complete waste of time.

:7:thumbsup: Keep DU'ing, DUers!
