The Bush Family Coup
Son revisits the sins of the father on America

by James Ridgeway
December 30th, 2005 2:26 PM

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The 9-11 attacks provided the rationale for what amounts to a Bush family coup against the Constitution.
From the outset, President George Bush used 9-11 to reorganize the federal government and increase its reach far beyond any existing law to delve into the lives of innocent, ordinary people. The new powers allowed the government to arrest them at will and to subject them to endless incarceration without judicial review. Some people were sent abroad to be tortured for crimes they had nothing to do with. Who knows how many people have been tortured in American jails? When government employees within the intelligence community sought to protest, the government fired them and made sure they could never get another job in their areas of expertise. This extraordinary program of spying on Americans, much of which was carried out in fishing expeditions under the Patriot Act, has the makings of a consistent and long-range policy to wreck constitutional government.

It is little wonder both left and right have come together to fight Bush and may yet jettison the Patriot Act. Revelations of the domestic spy operation, with its secret wiretaps, ought to supply sufficient evidence to impeach Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney and launch criminal prosecutions of the top federal officials involved in carrying out the program. After all, these people are directly engaged in overthrowing constitutional government. How did this all come about?

GET THE COMMIES

In opening a conference on counterintelligence in March 2005, former president George H.W. Bush, who headed the CIA from 1975 to 1977, said, “It burns me up to see the agency under fire.” Recent criticism, Bush said, reminded him of the 1970s, when Congress “unleashed a bunch of untutored little jerks out there” to investigate the CIA’s involvement in domestic spying, assassinations, and other illegal activities, and subsequently passed laws to prevent abuses.

1. When they wanted to stop the Florida vote counting in 2000, I knew

Bush kept saying in his 2000 campaign that he believed that we "the people" should decide things, not the federal government. But when it came to the Florida voting irregularities, the Bush gang did not want us to know how people had really voted, but demanded that the vote counting be halted. That was a clear signal to me that he was a dangerous lying hypocrite and I had a sinking feeling that only bad things were in store for this country with him and his gang in power.

2. Reagan was looking into ways to suspend the Constitution. This has
apparently been a repub dream for over 25 years. Why Americans would throw away 200 years of liberty to the repub party in the name of "national defense" is beyond me. I guess if we actually get invaded, the average American will join the new dictator.

I guess I have just watched too many movies where when people's rights are taken away, they actually fight for them and against the people that take them.

5. exactly
They've been trying to find ways since the Reagan overthrow in 1980 to destroy the Constitution. They're imperialists. It's
hardly surprising. Edwin Meese himself called the Bill of Rights "Marxist Propaganda".

3. Thank you so much for posting this...
in another thread i posed a question to another DU member, whether or not he agreed with the proposition that this administration has done violence to our Constitution (paraphrasing)..

Oddly, he refuses to answer the question.. (i later learned that he is a dlc candidate running for office in the state of Georgia, which might have something to do with his refusal to answer the question)

I was attaked for being a "lunatic" to suggest to people that we should call for a special recall presidential election - just because it isn't in the Constitution, i argue doesn't mean we shouldn't do it, the Constitution doesn't specifically provide for such a call, but it doesn't specificaly forbid or preclude it.

But more to the point, our Constitution is no longer operative under this administration. Logic should follow, that if the Constitution is not being honored by our rulers, those who inact laws against us, we the people, than we the people are fools, if we don't mobilize a special recall Presidential elections for 2006, not 2008.

7. That was a good article. Thanks for posting. I'm surprised only
one fool dared defend him and I think if they thought about it they would realize they were mostly badmouthing Clinton.

Read Octafish's "Know Your BFEE" posts. There's a compendium of links in a DU Schatzkeller somewhere on this site. They will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know and where to look for MORE info if your stomach can handle it.

Here's one:
