DeLay plans to give $15,000 to local charities in his suburban Houston district to make up for contributions given his campaign by Abramoff and his wife between 1995 and the first quarter of 2003, spokeswoman Shannon Flaherty said Wednesday.

DeLay, regarded as an aggressive political fundraiser, received at least $57,000 in political contributions from Abramoff, his wife, his lobbying associates or his tribal clients between 2001 and 2004, according to research by The Associated Press.

That total includes contributions to a national fundraising organization formed by DeLay, Americans for a Republican Majority, and a $10,000 contribution from the Louisiana Coushatta tribe to his charity group, Sugar Land-based DeLay Foundation for Kids.

A January 2001 contribution of $1,000 to DeLay's campaign came from Tony Rudy, a former DeLay aide who was referred to in Abramoff's plea agreement. Court papers said Abramoff paid $50,000 in 10 equal monthly payments beginning in June 2000 to the wife of a congressional aide identified as Staffer A to stop Internet gambling and postal rate legislation. Staffer A was identified as Tony Rudy by other public information and officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because the court papers did not identify him.

1. That's incredibly sad.
15,000 doesn't even cover the interest on all the money and perks he has recieved from abramoff.

2. Will he get a tax benefit for that?

3. I wonder whatever he'll do with the other$42,000? And I believe
even $57,000 is not accurate; what's in your (offshore)wallet, DeLay?

4. Wouldn't it be great if...
...the money were used for a voter registration drive, among the displaced Louisianans in Mr. DeLay's district?

7. Hot tub Tom hasn't much to smile about these, eh?
DeLay knows he's dead meat, and now it's just a matter of where this dead skunk will wind up.

1. Prisoner in a hip GOP prison where he'll have the choice of being wife or the husband.

2. Broke and back doing bug service calls for rich Democratic genetelmen.

3. His wife waiting table at the local Republican dinner in Sugarland where tips are non-existent.

5. Watch this get spun into "DeLay gave the money to charity." Period...
..with zero mention that he gave away only a fraction of what he received from Abramoff. And as for the figure of $57,000, all I can say is, "Yeah, right." We're talking Tom DeLay here. He's gotta be into Jack for way more than that, and we all know it.

8. Is he sure he didn't donate the money to his PAC fund or something?
Maybe he can "write it off"?
