Seriously. What was up with Abramoff's "Black Bart" getup?
Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 09:25 PM by PretzelWarrior
was it some cartoonish messaging meant to say, "I'M the bad guy. Not anyone I'm going to implicate. I should be viewed as the chief architect of evil and all others are going to get slaps on the hand whereas I will walk because I wore a black hat and trench coat, turned in some names, and asked for the Almighty's forgivenes.

I mean, who dresses like that? Even if it was cold and rainy.

I'm surprised he didn't make a public statement in front of a printed backdrop with the words repeated in a tiled mosaic, "I'm A REALLY BAD CROOK" along with "Don't look over there. I Did it."

1. I thought it had been established that...
the coat was to cover up a bullet proof vest, and the Inspector Gadget secret agent hat concealed fresh hair plugs. :pocorn:

8. I thought it was integral ballistic clothing, myself
Of the sort worn by heads of state. To INCLUDE the hat.

The car looked hardened, as well, and it would not surprise me if the foolish baseball hat he was photographed in subsequently also was "hardened."

Were I him, I'd be shopping at the same tailor.

2. It rhymes with "Mevlar"
Jacky didn't want to get "whackied" so he wore the whole Kevlar spring ensemble.

4. The old "crutch" trick was used up by Scooter. Novak used up the "cane"
trick. There was nothing left. PR people burned the mid-night oil and came up with that.

14. The hat may have something to do with being an orthodox jew - though
how he qualifies for that anymore I do not know. So the head must be covered. So I can understand the need for a hat.

The whole get up - is a little scary. Baseball cap much better.

7. yeah. I can't wait for DeLay's legal troubles to start again
He'll be grinning from ear to ear as he's found guilty on mutliple bribery and racketeering charges saying he's gonna put a hit out on the judge who did this to him. "There will be consequences for your judicial activism." Then he'll say it was all a part of his plan and things are going swimmingly and he's headed off to a night of Tom Delay fealty at the Sugarland Mental Institution.

12. Can you imagine his counsel's reaction when he set eyes on him?
He must've muttered, "Oh shit" a thousand times. Instead of dressing clean-cut and looking innocent, he dresses like a hit man. Abramoff is whacko.

16. Jack was sending a message to those involved and got the point across
then he realized he fucked up with the gangster look and tried a diversion with the baseball cap -- seems someone spoke with Jackie boy... it's a fact that Delay may as well forget any attempts at making a comeback, and that's just for openers...!

19. because these people are obsessively image conscious
so someone like him wearing such a strikingly symbolic getup is weird and either means they woke up and said, "Fuck it" or they had a misguided attempt at visual messaging or .....

it's just strange.

25. It wasn't that cold. His lawyer was wearing a sport coat and no hat.
Also this was in Wash D.C. on Tuesday, correct? It wasn't overcoat weather. OTOH some have suggest3ed he was wearinr the trench coat to hide a bullet proof vest. Now that is a possibility.

29. This man is no more Jewish orthodox than Pat Robertson
He's full of shit. Further, in no other photograph has this man gone out of his way to look like this. He's customarily dressed in expensive suits and nothing on his head.

He's a criminal clown.

But the outfit was very stylish ... where I come from.

BTW, not all Orthodox Jews wear visible fringes or cover their heads conspicuously.

Then I think about Pat Robertson and I remember extremist of all religons tend to be a bit crazy and evil. Bottom line: long black coats and hats of all kinds are worn by Orthodox Jews.
