"Delay knew everything. He knew all the details" - Jack Abramoff, 4-11-5
Edited on Sat Jan-07-06 02:42 AM by HR_Pufnstuf
Just a refresher of a Newsweek article back in April 2005. Enjoy.

====

"Those S.O.B.s," Abramoff said last week about DeLay and his staffers, according to his luncheon companion. "DeLay knew everything. He knew all the details."

From:

"With Friends Like These...
A lunchtime chat with a lobbyist close to Tom DeLay suggests he may be headed for hotter water."

From Indianz.com:

Newsweek: Abramoff offered to expose DeLay, others
Monday, April 11, 2005

Disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff has offered to expose embattled House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) and implicate other Washington politicians, Newsweek reports.

Newsweek cites a lunchtime conservation Abramoff reportedly had with a friend. "Everybody is lying," reportedly said. "Those S.O.B.s," he said, adding that Tom "DeLay knew everything. He knew all the details" about overseas trips funded by clients of Abramoff's, including the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.

Newsweek says Abramoff has hinted at exposing others in an attempt to make a deal with federal authorities investigating his lobbying activities on behalf of tribes. But his lawyer said there have been no "negotiations with the Justice Department."

Newsweek: Abramoff says DeLay knew everything and is lying

Explosive.

From Newsweek:

"Everybody is lying," Abramoff told a former colleague."

1. I guess this is why the Republicans are dumping DeLay
Strange group of people. They, and the administration, worshiped him until recently.

2. Is that why the House went on an extended vacation?
I asked this last night (no one responded.. but hey.. ..you know how you guys are )

I thought I heard they were out until the end of January because they thought it would give DeLay time to clear things up or something?

Anyone?

3. I'm no expert, but I wondered the same thing
I don't think it was to give him time to fix his problems, in spite of the few press accounts stating such. I think they had a plan for replacing him and needed time to get to it.

4. Thanks L/Street.... :o)
I didn't think it was time enough either.. But I could've sworn I heard somewhere (Olbermann maybe?) that they were holding out until DeLay came back..

They should make a statement and get their lazy overpaid/underworked asses back NOW!

Yeah, right..

Guess the Alito thing might have something to do with it, too, but covering their asses would seem to be the more likely motivation.

Nominated.

6. Yep...
...the reason for the extended "corner quiet time" was to throw DeLay overboard and have enough time to try and rewire history before the 2006 campaign season gets into full swing.

9. According to Daniel Schorr at NPR, Abramoff said he could name...
...up to 60 members of Congress. I wonder how many of them would be Senators?

10. Travis County Delay subpoenas
Edited on Sat Jan-07-06 04:46 AM by HR_Pufnstuf
And "the Travis County district attorney issued four subpoenas Tuesday in an attempt to find any links between" Abramoff and Rep. Tom DeLay's (R) "2002 Texas fundraising," the Houston Chronicle reports. The subpoenas "seek records from two law firms at which Abramoff worked, a Mississippi Indian tribe (Choctaws) he represented and a California tribe."

12. Almost a year ago he was threatening to expose everyone
In the last nine months I wonder how many meetings he attended wearing a wire. I have a hunch Delay is sweating more than just a little. The fear is quite palpable throughout Republican circles. Maybe they will all march in lock step right straight to jail and fight over who is "top".

16. What I wonder about...
I've been hoping that the Abramoff investigation, and the one in Texas by Ronnie Earle will both implicate DeLay, and not only remove him from power, but put him in prison. One thing intrigues me, too; we know DeLay is a spiteful, mean sob, and I wonder if he will decide to bring others down with him? I can see him trying to punish any members of his own party who don't stand by him.

DeLay is not about loyalty to party before country, or Constitution, Delay is about loyalty to himself. I find myself hoping that as he is carted off to prison, he will be naming names, and spilling secrets, in order to get revenge. Maybe not, but I can dream, can't I?

19. I heard that the delay was to give DeLay time to clear up his legal
problems so when he came back he could resume being leader. Remember, DeLay thought he was going to get the charges dropped when he got a Rethug judge.
