A trader had greeted him with "Hook 'em, Horns," the slogan of the national champion University of Texas Longhorns football team. So, the president said, he responded by giving the hand sign of the Longhorns back to the trader.
"So I hooked 'em,' Bush said. "Now I own a lot of corn."

He stood between the corn futures and corn options pit for a little more than 15 minutes as trading was suspended—a very unusual event. Still, the pit area retained its noisiness as traders in their multicolored jackets shouted to get the president's attention or that of the news media.
