BREAKING: Tammy Duckworth gets AFL-CIO endorsement (IL 6th CD)
This just in… Duckworth gets AFL-CIO nod

Tuesday, Jan 10, 2006

The Illinois AFL-CIO just a few minutes ago voted to endorse Tammy Duckworth for Congress. Duckworth is in a three-way Dem primary in the 6th CD.

No endorsement was made in incumbent Democrat Melissa Bean’s congressional race. Bean has angered unions with her support of CAFTA.

More details on other endorsements in tomorrow’s Capitol Fax.

2. Can someone tell me what is wrong with Cegelis?
She took 44% last time, against a tenured incumbent, and she had no money. Doesn't she deserve a chance to have the nomination? Yet all of the establishment is lining up behind this Duckworth woman.

Duckworth? Who? She may be a disabled veteran, but she has no campaign or political experience. Will she be able to hit the fastballs thrown at her by the RNC and Karl Rove's stormtroopers?

This is what happened with Bill McBride in Florida. A Vietnam veteran with no baggage at all. Yet come the fall campaign, he just couldn't compete with the sheer ruthlessness of Team Bush.

3. If 44% in 2004 entitles Cegelis to no primary opponent then. . .
. . .Al Gore should have been appointed our presidential candidate in 2004, afterall he got more than the other guy. That is tired logic, we can do better.

13. Besides the fact that she's a four star disaster?
Cegelis blew through nearly all of the money she raised last year without a fucking thing to show for it.

4. Because they know TPTB are behind Duckworth.
Because they know it is what the party leaders want. Because they know it is a way to get Cegelis to drop out. One way or the other, they will get her out.

What a shame.

5. And you know this because...
. . .its getting old that any positive news or support of Duckworth is immediately labeled a conspiracy by you. Its says nothing about Duckworth, but speaks volumes about those who buy into the conspiracy theories. . .such a shame.

6. I am not against Duckworth....
I am against the blatant effort by the DCCC to get Christine out of the race. They are doing this all over the country...they are demanding they raise huge sums or they will simply ignore them.

It is pure spin to say that you can stay in the race if the DCCC or DSCC really wants you out. That is just spin.

This is being done all over.

7. Then maybe its time to look at her objectively. . .
. . .as opposed to always seeing a conspiracy in any positive news she gets. She very well can win, however in the minds of some no matter what she does her victory would be tainted.

8. Oh, she will win the primary.
No doubt of that. Just wait until you hear more about what Rahm is doing around the country....just starting to hear.

9. Hey if Cegelis is the best candidate she'll win, Rahm aint that powerful
He cannot drive every Democrat in the district to the polls. You have to stop painting a Duckworth victory as a conspiracy. If the voters of the 6th CD meet both candidates and like Duckworth better that aint got shit to do with Rahm. Its the looking for the boogieman that is so damn laughable and speaks volumes of those who want to find something wrong.

14. I wish her well
It's quite a coup to have the backing of the AFL-CIO. I hope the union turns out members (and dollars) in droves to defeat whomever her republicon challenger might be.

17. How far will the repubs go?
It will be interesting to see if the nasty repubs will go after a woman vet who lost her limbs the same way they went after Max Cleland. I don't know that the public would stand for that. But then I am pretty confused by the public these days.
