Rove still in trouble over CIA leak!
Did anyone notice this?:

Tuesday 10 January 2006

Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald is said to have spent the past month preparing evidence he will present to a grand jury alleging that White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove knowingly made false statements to FBI and Justice Department investigators and lied under oath while he was being questioned about his role in the leak of covert CIA agent Valerie Plame's identity more than two years ago, according to sources knowledgeable about the probe.

1. Thanks for the link!
 This was interesting:

But sources knowledgeable about the case against Rove say that he was offered a plea deal in December and that Luskin had twice met with Fitzgerald during that time to discuss Rove's legal status. Rove turned down the plea deal, which would likely have required him to provide Fitzgerald with information against other officials who were involved in Plame's outing as well as testifying against those people, the sources said.

I want Rove to pay for the lives he has destroyed.

17. The only bars he's going to see are the gay bars in the Caymans.
Think about who has who by the balls. Fitzgerald might be proffering charges, but Karl Rove is the criminal mind behind the otherwise mindless President, and the President has the power to pardon Rove at any time.

And the President will pardon Rove, at the time and place of Rove's own choosing. If the President won't listen to Rove's reason, and he usually does, then Karl really only has to say one thing: "If I go down, I'm taking you with me, Georgie Boy, my AWOL, coke-snorting, election stealing, Indian robbing, forest raping, terrorist aiding, war starting buddy old pal."

2. Just get his fat white ass out of the White House. I'll be satisfied
You take Rove out and Bush becomes like a two year old without his Mommy, a honeybee without the queen of the hive. Bush CANNOT function without Rove.

Get Rove on anything, I don't care. Overdue library books, whatever! They got Al Capone on tax evasion, you know.

6. I think Fitz wisely is waiting until the news window opens
I have felt for many months he would indict Rove. After the last minute ploy of Luskin forestalled the indictment a few months ago, Fitz had to start over with a new grand jury.

I do not believe he wanted to indict before year's end and get caught up in the end of year news dumps, and the solo act the administration has for news coverage over the holiday break.

He doesn't want to indict while Alito is top half front page. I'm thinking next week.

I have a cartoon on the topic, but we may have to go ahead and run it before then. Time is wasting and it's got something topical in it I don't want to get stale.

19. The timing is important
I agree that we will have to wait for alito to drop off the page, I just don't know how quickly that will happen. It may take longer if there is a filibuster.

Turned down a plea bargain twice, hm? Must be pretty sure he can beat it. Is this before or after his attorney seemed to have donned some sort of muzzle?

A month more work? Interviews and reinterviews? Crossing my fingers...

13. Hmm..
What bothers me is that since OCtober has been back in action and hasn't seemed worried about his legal troubles any more. Do they think that Rove is pretty much toast and he's looking to do as much as he possibly can for Bush before he goes? I would love to see the guy swiped before next month.

23. Good point...
I've heard that Rove looks like he's in a good mood and the WH feels he's pretty much "in the clear." I don't know why. I hope they're just putting on a brave face while shaking in their fake cowboy boots.

15. also, Fritz has other cases he is working on at the same time.

Although there have not been rumblings regarding Fitzgerald's probe into the Plame leak since he met with the grand jury hearing evidence in the case more than a month ago, the sources said that Fitzgerald has been quietly building his case against Rove and has been interviewing witnesses, in some cases for the second and third time, who have provided him with information related to Rove's role in the leak. It is unclear when Fitzgerald is expected to meet with the grand jury again.

Fitzgerald has been investigating whether officials in the Bush administration broke the law and blew Plame's cover as a way to retaliate against her husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, a staunch critic of the administration's pre-war Iraq intelligence.

According to sources, Fitzgerald had planned to meet with the grand jury several times last month, hoping to wrap up the case specifically as it relates to Rove's involvement. But the prosecutor, who empanelled a second grand jury in November and whose term expires in 18 months, had his hands full dealing with another high-profile criminal case he is prosecuting involving Lord Conrad Black, owner of several major metropolitan newspapers, who was indicted on charges including racketeering.

Moreover, several members of the grand jury had questions involving Rove's prior testimony before the previous grand jury on four separate occasions and had requested additional information about the testimony and about the overall case, these sources said, leading to a delay in the proceedings so Fitzgerald could provide that information.......
