"jill is kidnapped and alan is killed"
after the the "treasure of baghdad`s" vacation in the united states he goes back to baghdad and finds out his best friends and fellow journalists have been kidnapped and murdered. he was warned that someone would do this to him for visiting the usa and writing about his thoughts on this country and it could be his two friends paid the price
we may not like the way our country is but at least for now we are able to speak our minds without the fear of death.

Edited on Wed Jan-11-06 10:17 AM by hlthe2b
whose name I think is Jill, who was recently kidnapped and her translater killed...

On edit, her name is Jill Carroll. Not much has appeared in US papers (apparently a considered decision by CSM)...

5. We can speak our minds without fear of death. For now. But according
to an AOL poll someone posted this morning, 30% of Americans question the patriotism and loyalty to the US of those who criticize the handling of the war.

That is, how it has been managed and carried out.

Not just those who are against the war. Not just those who think it was a bad idea.

Even those who think that Bush and the DoD aren't doing a very good job running things.

30% of the country believes that those people are traitors.

Thats a disturbing figure.

9. You mean, when we won't have that freedom anymore?
Hell, I don't know. It might only take five to ten more years. Probably closer to ten.

11. This is a little O/T here, but I hope it doesn't come to that
There is an ebb of flow of power. Let's hope the pendulum doesn't swing that far.

8. I suspect that number was as high or higher during vietnam
I don't like the fact that 30% question the patriotism and loyalty of those who criticize the war. But for those of us who lived through the "love or leave it" days of the Vietnam war, it doesn't translate into some notion that we're on the verge of a situation where you take your life in your hands when you speak out.

10. That's true. But what it does translate to, for me,
is a sign that more and more Americans are beginning to accept whatever BushCo says, right or wrong.

And, once that number gets high enough, the administration can do whatever it wants.

13. didn't work out that way during the Vietnam era
I suspect we're probably seeing the high water mark of people accepting chimpy's view. More people are critical of the decision to go to war and the way the war has been handled now than before.
