Burns says Democrats behind Abramoff scandal
By JENNIFER McKEE Missoulian State Bureau

HELENA - Sen. Conrad Burns, R-Mont., said Monday his political enemies are behind newspaper reports linking him to confessed felon and former lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Burns, who is on a media tour of Montana this week, also said he has no intentions of dropping out of the 2006 U.S. Senate race, quashing a rumor that has floated around both Helena and Washington, D.C.
“Write it down, real quick: I've never had more enthusiasm or higher energy for a campaign in my life than I got right now, OK? End of story,” Burns told the Lee Newspapers State Bureau reporters in an interview. “I never had this much enthusiasm in 1988. Take it to the bank. Make book on it.”

Roll Call, a Capitol Hill newspaper, reported Monday that speculation is swirling that Burns may drop out of the race.

The Wall Street Journal and Washington Post have reported Burns is among four lawmakers caught up in an ongoing Justice Department investigation into influence peddling surrounding Abramoff and his partner, Michael Scanlon.

1. Wonder what he will say
if Abramoff names him and the Feds come to indict him? Somehow, as I read this, a picture of a stuck pig squealing comes to mind.

3. Manly posturing and big smiles
a must for today's gop elected official. In the not too distant past, there was no doubt tom delay would keep his leadership post; all you had to do was ask him.

I'd shy away from republicans who suggested I take anything to the bank.

8. Locals around here don't hunt much.
Too many rank amatures out and about with guns and beer. The locals stay indoors as much as possible and hope their cows don't get hit.

They wouldn't let Burns take a hunting accident. Too swift and realitively painless. They like tar, hurts for longer then you lose your hide. It's sorta like what is happening to them all financially with bushco policies rubber stamped by Abramoff bought GOP Congress.

If Conrad goes to Butte, he might be invited on a hunt for old mine shafts. He probably should stay outta there too.

7. This guy has always been comical,
if nothing else. I can't remember where or when I saw it, but on CSPAN once he complained that his political opponent shouldn't critize him because the opponent once drank beer with him on his deck--HIS beer, from HIS refrigerator, on HIS deck.

I kid you not!
