the Empire's Condi mad at Norway, threatens them

http://www.aftenposten.no/english/local/article1196096.ece

USA threats after boycott support
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice threatened Norway with "serious political consequences" after Finance Minister and Socialist Left Party leader Kristin Halvorsen admitted to supporting a boycott of Israeli goods.

The reaction was reportedly given to the Norwegian embassy in Washington DC, and it was made clear that the statements came from the top level of the US State Department, newspaper VG reports.

VG claims that two classified reports promised a "tougher climate" between the USA and Norway if Halvorsen's remarks represented the foreign policy of the new red-green alliance of the Labor, Socialist Left and Center parties.

Norway's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jonas Gahr Støre, responded immediately with written explanations to both Israel and the USA, clarifying the government's stance, while Halvorsen distanced her party's policy from that of the government's.

1. Jesus
Well this kinda shows the true colors of this administration. Condi is visiting Norway not to broker peace or address the issue of terrorism. No, she is spending her time threatening the Norwegians cause they will not stop the boycott of Israeli goods.

It is never really about war, poverty, terrorism etc... It is about COLD HARD CASH AND TRADE....

THe God of the republicans wears green.

5. maybe they should send a couple of cans to the WH
when they open them Norway will automatically classed into a rogue state detenting prohibited chemical weapons... not to to talk about Sweden where it's manufactured...

opening one can in a subway a hot day would trigger panic

don't ever try this ! you'd be shot on sight

PS : the stench is horrible (mercaptans) but still considered a delicacy in Scandinavians countries

7. Lol...

One really hot summer in Sweden, I was in a store where a can exploded....I vomited right there. It was the worst thing I had ever smelled.....and that includes a Danish cheese shop on a hot day.

Cheers!

even if Halvorsen is an half-idiot (Halv means half) and profiling a typical leftist show off stance (ask her about a boycott of the Norwegian whaling and seal hunting, and she'll talk about something else) which have the same consequences than the "freedom fries" story (the Israeli export to Europe is mostly oranges during the low season), it shows how stingy the current US administration is.

If you want to help the Palestinian economy it's much smarter to import Palestinian oranges and olives as many EU countries do, to show that they are two sides in the conflict and to help Palestinians grow out of poverty, which can only have a positive effect on the conflict in the long term. But Condi wouldn't have protested from some idiot wanting to boycott Palestinian goods. Even the Israeli "import" them.

6. Why would the American Sec. State be concerned about the
boycott between two different countries? Condie is the US Sec. of State, right? What, does she moonlight for Israel as a second job? Doesn't her boyfriend pay her enough?

11. There is a movement in the US to demand divestment, just as during
the other anti-apartheid movement for South Africa. That was also seen as a threat by the Reagan administration, and there were claims that "it hurts those we are trying to help". In the end, the US government cut ties to South Africa, and though Israeli stood by its ally South Africa until the end, it realized it had to change its ways.

In the words of Israeli journalist Amira Hass:

According to that logic , Israel has the right to institute a double legal standard in the occupied territories: one for Jews, another for Palestinians. Unlimited rights for Jews in housing, freedom of movement, livelihood, infrastructure, and land and water use, versus an organized system of stripping the Palestinians of human and civil rights. According to that logic, Palestinians must make do with increasingly smaller "land cells" whose private ownership they can prove. The broader expanses, whose ownership is not registered with the Israel Lands Administration, automatically belongs to "Israel" and the settlers' councils.
