Failure to filibuster even if just symbolic will come back to haunt Dems..

In the face of growing public support for impeachment and ongoing exposure of this Administration's dastardly deeds, they are 100% justified. A failed fillibuster is a noble act. It is time to draw an US vs. THEM line in the sand.

2. Agree.
I am so sick of the MSM reporting that the Alito nomination is a fait accompli.

4. Perhaps.
But I actually think that filibustering would damage dems far worse than not filibustering. Yes I want all dems to vote no on Alito, though I'll certainly understand If certain Senators from certain red states vote to confirm. Public support for a filibuster is just not high enough. And there's worse to come. It's not unlikely that Stevens or Ginsberg will retire due to ill health or die in the next couple of years. Stevens is 85 and Ginsberg has had health problems. Yeah, O'Connor's vote was important but I don't think she was so great for our side. It's actually quite difficult to predict how Alito will vote. I'd rather not see him on the court, but I'm not convinced he's a clone of Scalia. I may be wrong. We'll almost certainly have the opportunity to find out. What we need to do is take back Congress this year. If we can win back the Senate, there's no way that bush can force feed us any more ultra conservatives.

5. Haunt them? They'll be ghosts if they don't do it.
This is pretty much their last chance for relevance. They are one vote away from public joke of history.

7. I don't think we should filibuster just for the sake of filibustering
unless they know they have the votes. A failed filibuster would do great damage to our mission.

However, I do think that the Dems should do everything possible to pull together the 41 votes they need to sustain a filibuster.

8. Yes. Having the votes to filibuster would be symbolic itself. nt

9. No having the votes to filibuster WOULD be a filibuster!
If they have the votes, they should filibuster. If they don't, they shouldn't call attention to the fact that they can't mount one.
